Healthier You Newsletter: Healing Inflammation, Restoring Wellness: A Message from My Heart
By Paul Bernitt, DHH
Director of Wellness Services, TriVitaDear Friends,
I want to take a moment to speak from my heart. Chronic inflammation affects so many of you, and I know the toll it takes—not just physically but emotionally and spiritually, too. You’re not alone if you feel overwhelmed by pain, fatigue, or stress. But there is hope. You can take steps toward healing with understanding and small, intentional changes. Let’s walk this journey together.
In this newsletter, I’ll share the top causes of chronic inflammation, the problems it creates, and holistic ways to restore balance to your body. I’ll also highlight the role of simple lifestyle modifications that can help you reduce chronic inflammation and its symptoms.
The Top 5 Causes of Chronic Inflammation
- Poor Diet
What we eat directly impacts inflammation. Diets high in processed foods, refined sugars, and unhealthy fats can trigger the immune system to stay in constant “fight” mode. This can lead to chronic inflammation over time. A study published in Nature Medicine (2018) found that high sugar intake disrupts the gut microbiome, leading to systemic inflammation and insulin resistance. (1) - Lack of Exercise
Our bodies are designed to move. Without regular activity, stiffness and inflammation can set in. A sedentary lifestyle often leads to weight gain, which increases stress on joints and worsens inflammation. Research from the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism (2015) found that moderate exercise reduces markers of inflammation, including CRP (C-reactive protein), in overweight adults. (2) - Stress
Chronic stress can feel like carrying an invisible weight. It keeps your body in a constant state of high alert, releasing stress hormones that fuel inflammation. Over time, this can weaken your immune system and hinder healing. A study in Psychoneuroendocrinology (2016) linked chronic stress with elevated inflammatory cytokines, which increase the risk of conditions like heart disease and depression. (3) - Environmental Toxins
Exposure to environmental pollutants, such as fine particulate matter (PM2.5), has been linked to increased systemic inflammation, which can contribute to various health issues. A study published in Environmental Health Perspectives in 2016 found that higher levels of PM2.5 were associated with elevated markers of systemic inflammation, including C-reactive protein (CRP) and interleukin-6 (IL-6), in a cohort of elderly individuals. (4) - Lack of Sleep
Sleep is your body’s repair mode. Without enough rest, your immune system becomes overactive, leading to unnecessary inflammation. Sleep deprivation can also worsen conditions like arthritis and cardiovascular disease. A study showed that sleep-deprived individuals had significantly higher levels of inflammatory markers compared to those with adequate rest. (5)
The Problems Chronic Inflammation Can Create
When inflammation lingers, it can disrupt nearly every part of your body:
- Joint Pain and Stiffness: Chronic inflammation contributes to cartilage breakdown, leading to pain and reduced mobility. A study showed inflammation leads to cartilage degradation and joint pain. (6)
- Heart Disease: Inflammation in blood vessels can cause narrowing, increasing the risk of heart attack or stroke. Research in the Journal of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography explores how chronic inflammatory diseases are linked to coronary heart disease, emphasizing the role of systemic inflammation in cardiovascular events. (7)
- Brain Fog and Mood Issues: Inflammation affects brain function, potentially leading to depression, anxiety, and cognitive difficulties. A review in Frontiers in Immunology examines the impact of stress-induced inflammation on coronary artery disease, noting the connection between inflammatory cytokines and mood disorders. (8)
- Digestive Problems: Conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and leaky gut are often associated with inflammation. An article in BMC Medicine discusses the role of immunity and inflammation in atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease, which can also relate to inflammatory processes in the gut. (9)
- Weakened Immune System: Chronic inflammation can overburden the immune system, making individuals more susceptible to illnesses. A study in Frontiers in Physiology reviews the role of inflammation in heart failure, highlighting how persistent inflammation impairs immune function.(10)
Turning Chronic Inflammation into Healthy Inflammation
Here’s the truth: Chronic inflammation doesn’t have to define your life. Science and holistic wellness show us powerful ways to calm the body and encourage healing.
- Adopt an Anti-Inflammatory Diet
Emphasizing whole, unprocessed foods like leafy greens, berries, nuts, seeds, fatty fish, and olive oil can reduce inflammation.
- Scientific Insight: A study in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (2016) confirmed that the Mediterranean diet significantly reduces inflammatory markers like CRP. (11)
- Get Regular Movement
Engaging in daily activities such as walking, yoga, or swimming improves circulation and reduces inflammation. Movement also releases endorphins, natural pain relievers.
- Scientific Insight: A 2020 review in Frontiers in Physiology highlighted that low-to-moderate exercise reduces inflammation in people with arthritis. (12)
- Practice Stress Management
Incorporating practices like meditation, prayer, deep breathing, or journaling can lower stress levels and strengthen the immune system.
- Scientific Insight: A randomized trial showed mindfulness practice reduced inflammation markers. (13)
- Detox Your Environment
Minimize exposure to toxins by using natural cleaning products, stop using deodorant with aluminum in it, avoid processed foods, and add air-purifying plants to your home.
- Scientific Insight: A study showed that reducing household pollutants decreased oxidative stress and inflammation. (14)
- Prioritize Quality Sleep
Aim for 7-9 hours of uninterrupted sleep each night. A consistent bedtime routine helps signal to your body that it’s time to rest and repair.
- Scientific Insight: Research shows the link between adequate sleep and lower inflammatory cytokines. (15
How Nopalea Can Support Your Journey
Nopalea, made from the prickly pear ruby red optuntia ficus, is rich in betalains, natural antioxidants that combat oxidative stress and inflammation.
- Reduces CRP Levels: Lowers markers of inflammation in the body. (16)
- Improves Range of Motion: Soothes joint inflammation, enhancing flexibility. (16)
- Less Reliance on Pain Medication: By addressing the root causes of pain, many users find they need less medication.(16)
- Natural Pain Relief: Eases discomfort to enjoy your favorite activities. (16)
Friend, you don’t have to feel stuck in the cycle of inflammation. Let’s take these steps together—starting with small changes that lead to big transformations. I believe in your ability to heal, and simple lifestyle improvements including Nopalea can help you in your wellness journey. I’m here to support you every step of the way.

A New Year, A New Opportunity to Heal
By Paul Bernitt, DHH
Happy New Year! As we step into 2025, I want to talk about something that affects many of us but often goes unnoticed—chronic inflammation. For millions of people, chronic inflammation is a hidden challenge, quietly impacting their health and quality of life. It shows up in ways you might not immediately recognize, but understanding the signs can help you take proactive steps toward feeling better. This year, I invite you to learn more about how you can fight inflammation naturally with Nopalea®, a delicious superfood drink that may help support your body’s ability to heal.
Recognizing Chronic Inflammation
Chronic inflammation is your body’s way of trying to protect itself, but when it doesn’t shut off, it can lead to serious health problems. Here are some common signs and symptoms:
- Joint Pain or Stiffness: Persistent discomfort, especially in the knees, hips or hands, may indicate inflammation in the joints.
- Low Energy or Fatigue: Feeling tired all the time could be a result of your immune system working overtime.
- Swelling or Redness: Visible inflammation, especially in areas where you’ve had injuries or ongoing discomfort, may be one of the more obvious signs.
- Digestive Issues: Problems like bloating, cramping or irregular bowel movements may point to inflammation in your gut.
- Skin Conditions: Eczema, psoriasis or acne could signal inflammation affecting your skin.
- Brain Fog: Trouble concentrating or feeling mentally “off” is another surprising symptom.
If any of these sound familiar, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to live with these challenges forever.
A Natural Solution: Meet Nopalea
This year, I want to share a tool that has helped many people improve their health: Nopalea, a natural superfood drink made from the fruit of the prickly pear cactus, the ruby-red Opuntia ficus-indica. Known for its rich supply of antioxidants, including betalains, Nopalea is designed to fight inflammation at its root. Unlike medications that simply mask pain, Nopalea helps support your body’s natural ability to heal and repair itself.
When you drink Nopalea, you’re giving your body a burst of powerful nutrients that may help reduce inflammation. Betalains, the compounds responsible for its vibrant red color, are especially effective. They help calm the immune response that causes inflammation, helping you feel better without the side effects often associated with pain medications.
Real Benefits for Everyday Life
In a double-blind placebo study, people who incorporated Nopalea into their daily routines reported noticeable improvements in their health.1
- Less Pain and Stiffness: Many people felt relief in their joints and muscles, allowing them to move more freely and enjoy life again.
- Increased Range of Motion: By reducing inflammation, Nopalea helped participants improve flexibility and mobility, making everyday activities easier.
- Better Overall Wellbeing: When your body is no longer fighting chronic inflammation, you’ll feel more energized and ready to tackle your day.
- Reduced Reliance on Medications: Nopalea offered a natural way for participants to manage pain and inflammation, helping them reduce the need for pain medications.
My Personal Journey with Nopalea
As someone who has studied and experienced the benefits of natural health remedies, I believe deeply in the power of Nopalea. I’ve seen its impact on people struggling with chronic pain, low energy and limited mobility. For me and for countless others, it’s been a life-changing addition to a healthier journey.
At one point in my life I felt trapped by the constant cycle of lower back pain. After just a few weeks of drinking Nopalea daily, I felt substantially less pain, which helped me bend over with greater ease. Stories like mine make me passionate about sharing this gift with others.
Here is what others say:
Justina S.
I have been taking NOPALEA from TriVita for about 5 years now… I am certain that the reason I no longer have to take as much IBUPROFEN as I used to… is because of this wellness drink. I drink it each day, NO FAIL! I stopped getting frequent headaches after 3 months of taking Nopalea. I followed the instructions on how to take it in gradually increasing increments.
Noreen D.
I had a C-Reactive Protein Test, which gave me a result of 100. Then I started taking Nopalea, and after about 7 months I went for another test, which showed my numbers had gone down to .1. I’m so happy with Nopalea.
A New Year, A New Opportunity
As we begin 2025, I encourage you to consider your health goals for the year. What if this is the year you take control of your pain, find more energy and feel better than you have in years? Adding Nopalea to your routine could be the step that changes everything.
Here’s how to get started:
- Drink 6 ounces of Nopalea daily, depending on your needs. Consistency is key!
- Pay attention to how your body feels. Many people notice improvements within a few weeks.
- Pair Nopalea with healthy habits like a balanced diet, regular movement and stress management to amplify its benefits.
- Talk to one of TriVita’s Certified Wellness Consultants about TriVita’s 60-Day Nopalea Plan.
Why Feeling is Believing
Healing doesn’t happen overnight, but with patience and commitment, you can experience real, lasting relief. The antioxidants and betalains in Nopalea don’t just treat the symptoms—they help your body repair itself from within. Imagine waking up with less pain, more energy and the freedom to enjoy life again.
This year, let’s focus on building healthier habits, starting with reducing inflammation. Nopalea is a safe, natural choice that aligns with your body’s own healing processes. As you begin your journey, remember: Feeling is believing.
Here’s to a healthier, happier 2025!
Warm regards,
Paul Bernitt, DHH

Healthier You Newsletter: Fighting Chronic Inflammation for a Life of Freedom
By Paul Bernitt, DHH
Director of Wellness Services, TriVitaThe Hidden Threat of Chronic Inflammation
Chronic inflammation is one of the most dangerous yet often overlooked health challenges we face today. Unlike acute inflammation—which is your body’s natural healing response to injury or infection—chronic inflammation silently persists over time. This ongoing inflammation can damage healthy tissues and lead to serious health conditions like arthritis, heart disease, diabetes, and even certain cancers.
What makes chronic inflammation so dangerous is that it doesn’t always show obvious symptoms that we would commonly recognize as serious health risks. Instead, it slowly wears down your body, causing stiffness, fatigue, pain, and a weakened immune system. Many people don’t realize that chronic inflammation is at the root of their discomfort until it has already affected their quality of life.
The Science of Reducing Chronic Inflammation
Fortunately, chronic inflammation is not a life sentence. Scientific studies show that making healthy lifestyle choices can significantly reduce inflammation, helping you feel better, move more freely, and reclaim your life. These changes may seem small, but their impact is profound.
Key Healthy Choices to Reduce Inflammation:
- Choose Anti-Inflammatory Foods
Focus on whole, plant-based foods rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Leafy greens, berries, nuts, seeds, and fatty fish are excellent choices to lower inflammation naturally. - Stay Active
Regular exercise helps regulate your body’s inflammatory response, improving joint flexibility, reducing stiffness, and boosting your mood. Even moderate activities like walking or yoga can make a big difference. - Prioritize Sleep and Stress Management
Poor sleep and high stress levels can trigger inflammation. Aim for 7–8 hours of restful sleep each night and incorporate stress-relieving practices like deep breathing, meditation, or prayer into your daily routine. - Support Your Body with Nopalea
A powerful wellness drink made from the nopal cactus fruit, Nopalea contains betalains, antioxidants proven to reduce inflammation and protect your cells from damage.
The Benefits of Nopalea: Backed by Science
Many people have found remarkable relief by incorporating Nopalea into their daily routines. Clinical research supports these results. In a double-blind placebo-controlled study (1), participants who drank Nopalea experienced:
- Lower Levels of C-Reactive Protein (CRP): CRP is a marker of inflammation in the body. By reducing CRP levels, Nopalea helps calm the body’s inflammatory response.
- Improved Range of Motion: Participants reported greater flexibility and less stiffness in their joints, allowing them to move more freely and comfortably.
- Reduced Pain and Reliance on Pain Medication: Many participants experienced a significant reduction in pain, leading to less dependence on over-the-counter or prescription pain relievers.
- Overall Improved Wellness: People in the study noted better energy, vitality, and quality of life.
These benefits aren’t just numbers on a page—they represent real changes in people’s lives. I’ve seen countless individuals regain their freedom, pursue activities they thought they had to give up, and live with greater joy and ease simply by adopting an anti-inflammatory lifestyle that includes Nopalea.
Real-Life Transformations: A Life Free from Chronic Inflammation
One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is witnessing the newfound freedom people experience when they take control of their health.
Brenda S.
My knees feel a lot better ever since taking Nopalea. Nopalea has made a big difference in my life and it tastes great too.
Lula K.
I have some nerve damage in my hand and was not able to make a fist at one point. Since taking the Nopalea, the nerves in my hand feel a lot better and I’m now able to make a fist. Also, I had knee replacement surgery and the Nopalea has kept the swelling down. I’m very happy with the product and will be recommending it to others who need it.
Barbara P.
Trivita products have been a blessing to me. I move way much better and I’m extremely healthy and I say thank you. I give Nopalea 5+ stars.
These are just a few examples of what’s possible when you address chronic inflammation head-on.
Your Path to Wellness
Reducing chronic inflammation starts with simple, intentional changes to your lifestyle. Focus on nourishing your body with clean, whole foods, staying active, and managing stress. Supporting your health with scientifically proven tools like Nopalea can amplify your results, helping you reclaim your freedom and vitality.
If you’re ready to break free from the limitations of chronic inflammation, Nopalea could be the key to unlocking a healthier, more active life. The benefits are real, and the science backs it up. Take the first step toward a life of greater wellness, mobility, and energy today.

That’s exactly what participants in a study experienced with TriVita’s Nopalea. This superfruit drink made from the prickly pear cactus doesn’t just mask pain like medications do. Instead, it works by addressing the root cause — chronic inflammation.1
Nopalea is rich in antioxidants and betalains, which are powerful compounds that reduce inflammation and stimulate the body’s natural healing process.2 Unlike traditional pain relievers, which come with side effects, Nopalea provides a safe, natural way to manage pain.
Programming Your Body and Mind for Healing
Biblical teachings emphasize the power of belief, as seen in John 20:29 and Hebrews 11:1, which remind us that faith in unseen outcomes can lead to real results. Neuroscience shows that believing for a positive result boosts the brain’s natural ability to release healing chemicals, like endorphins. As you believe in your body’s ability to heal, you create the ideal conditions to maximize recovery.3

Conquer Chronic Inflammation with Nopalea: The Superfruit Drink for Pain Relief and Mobility
By Paul Bernitt, DHH
Director of Wellness Services, TriVitaChronic inflammation is more than just an annoyance—it’s a serious health risk that can limit your mobility, cause pain, and affect your overall quality of life. The good news? You can take control of your health with Nopalea, a natural, scientifically-backed superfruit drink designed to reduce inflammation, improve flexibility, and enhance your quality of life.
Improve Your Life with Nopalea
Imagine a life with less pain, more movement, and greater freedom to enjoy time with family and friends. Thousands of TriVita members have already experienced these benefits by incorporating Nopalea into their daily routines. Many report feeling less pain and more mobile, enabling them to do what they love. Isn’t that what we all want—a life full of connection, activity, and vitality?
To validate these incredible results, we put Nopalea through an independent, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical study that passed with flying colors. The study showed that Nopalea improves mobility, flexibility, and range of motion in the neck, back, and joints. Participants also reduced their C-reactive protein (CRP), the gold standard for measuring chronic inflammation in the body. Participants also conveyed that they had less reliance on pain medications.
The Science of Pain Relief with Nopalea
Unlike traditional pain medications that only mask symptoms, Nopalea targets the root cause of pain: chronic inflammation. Derived from the nutrient-rich fruit of the prickly pear ruby red opuntia ficus indica cactus fruit, Nopalea is packed with powerful antioxidants and betalains, compounds known for their ability to:
- Reduce inflammation at the cellular level
- Support the body’s natural healing processes
- Promote detoxification and cellular repair
These properties make Nopalea a natural and effective way to manage pain without the side effects of medications.
Believing Is Feeling: The Role of Faith in Healing
Healing isn’t just physical—it’s mental and spiritual too. Biblical teachings, such as John 20:29 and Hebrews 11:1, remind us that belief and faith in unseen outcomes can lead to real results. This principle aligns with modern neuroscience, which shows that believing in your body’s ability to heal triggers the release of natural pain-relieving chemicals like endorphins.
By combining Nopalea with a mindset of belief and a commitment to wellness, you create the ideal conditions for your body to heal and thrive.

Healthier You Newsletter: Protecting Yourself from Hidden Toxins in Modern Life
By Paul Bernitt, DHH
Director of Wellness Services, TriVitaThe Hidden Dangers in Our Environment
Today’s modern world makes life easier in many ways, but it also exposes us to harmful toxins daily. These toxins come from the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, and even the products we use at home. While you might not always notice them, they can quietly damage your health by triggering chronic inflammation, a condition linked to serious illnesses like heart disease, diabetes, and even cancer.
Let’s take a closer look at where these toxins come from and how they affect your body:
- Airborne Toxins: Pollution, cigarette smoke, and chemical fumes from cleaning supplies or paint can all enter your lungs. These irritants cause inflammation in your respiratory system, making it harder for your body to get the oxygen it needs.
- Toxins in Food: Pesticides, artificial additives, and processed ingredients are common in today’s diets. These chemicals disrupt your gut health, weaken your immune system, and cause inflammatory responses.
- Household and Hygiene Products: Many of the products we use daily—like shampoos, soaps, and cleaning sprays—contain harsh chemicals that can irritate your skin, eyes, or lungs.
- Water Contaminants: Heavy metals like lead and chemicals like chlorine or fluoride in drinking water can damage your cells and lead to long-term inflammation.
Over time, exposure to these toxins can overwhelm your body’s natural detox system. Your liver, kidneys, and immune system work hard to eliminate these harmful substances, but too much exposure can lead to a state called toxic overload. This is where chronic inflammation takes root, damaging tissues and leading to long-term health problems.
Combating Toxins with a Healthy Lifestyle
The good news is that you can reduce the impact of toxins on your body by making healthy choices every day. Here’s how:
- Breathe Clean Air: Improve the air quality in your home by using air purifiers, keeping plants that filter toxins, and avoiding smoking or harsh chemical sprays indoors.
- Eat Clean Foods: Focus on whole, organic, fresh foods whenever possible. Look for fruits and vegetables free of pesticides, and avoid processed foods filled with artificial additives.
- Hydrate Wisely: Drink filtered or purified water to avoid contaminants. Adding a squeeze of lemon to your water can also support your body’s natural detox processes.
- Choose Natural Products: Opt for natural cleaning products and personal hygiene items that are free from harsh chemicals and artificial fragrances.
- Support Your Body’s Detox System: Exercise regularly, get enough sleep, and stay hydrated. These simple habits help your body flush out toxins more effectively.
How Nopalea Can Help Reduce the Effects of Toxicity
Even with the healthiest lifestyle, you can’t avoid toxins completely. That’s where Nopalea, a delicious wellness drink made from the nutrient-rich fruit of the prickly pear ruby red opuntia ficus indica cactus fruit, can make a difference. Nopalea contains betalains, powerful antioxidants that help reduce inflammation and protect your cells from damage caused by toxins.
Here’s how Nopalea works to support your body:
- Neutralizes Harmful Free Radicals: Betalains in Nopalea act as natural protectors against free radicals, which are unstable molecules that can damage your cells and lead to inflammation.
- Reduces Inflammation: Chronic inflammation is your body’s way of fighting back against toxins, but it can go overboard and harm healthy tissues. Nopalea helps calm inflammation, allowing your body to heal.
- Supports Detoxification: The nutrients in Nopalea help your body process and remove harmful toxins more efficiently, reducing the burden on your body.
Clinical studies have shown that Nopalea can help lower levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), a marker of inflammation in the body. (1) By adding Nopalea to your daily routine, you’re giving your body an extra layer of defense against the harmful effects of toxins.
Small Changes, Big Results
Protecting yourself from modern toxins doesn’t mean you have to overhaul your life overnight. Small, consistent changes can lead to big improvements in your health. Start by being mindful of the products you use, the foods you eat, and the air you breathe. Support your body’s natural defenses with simple habits like staying hydrated, eating clean, and moving your body daily.
And don’t forget to give your body extra support with Nopalea. As part of a healthy lifestyle, this powerful drink can help reduce inflammation, protect your cells, and keep you feeling your best—even in a world full of toxins.
At TriVita, our mission is to help you live your healthiest, most vibrant life. While you cant leave this toxic world, you can take charge of your wellness, and incorporate Nopalea into your daily routine today. Together, we can combat the effects of toxins and create a healthier, happier you!

Get Radiant Skin: How Biotin, Omega-3s, Collagen and Nutrient-Rich Foods Can Make a Difference
By Paul Bernitt, DHH
Who doesn’t want beautiful, glowing skin? Healthy skin not only looks great, but it can also make you feel confident. What if I told you that achieving radiant skin might be as simple as adding the right nutrients to your daily routine? In this issue of Healthier You, we’ll talk about how biotin, omega-3 fatty acids, collagen and nutrient-rich foods can give you the glowing skin you’ve always wanted.
Why Skin Health Matters
Our skin is our body’s largest organ, and it does a lot for us. It protects us from germs, keeps our insides safe and helps us stay hydrated. But to keep doing its job well, our skin needs the right vitamins and nutrients. Without them, skin can become dry, irritated and even show signs of aging early. Beauty is not only skin deep, because it is not only on the outside but also on the insides of our arteries, veins, digestive tract and vital organs, serving to protect them. The health of the skin on the surface is a good indicator of the health of the skin within. Let’s look at some nutrients that can make a big difference in skin health.
Biotin: The Beauty Vitamin
Biotin, also known as vitamin B7, is sometimes called the “beauty vitamin” because of its powerful effects on hair, skin and nails. Biotin helps the body convert food into energy and plays a big role in creating keratin, a protein that makes up our skin, hair and nails.1
How Biotin Benefits Your Skin
- Improves Skin Hydration: Biotin helps your skin cells hold onto moisture, which keeps skin looking plump and smooth. People with low biotin levels might notice dry, flaky skin, but taking biotin can help improve hydration.2
- Supports Cell Repair: Biotin helps skin cells repair and grow, making it great for keeping your skin healthy and glowing. This is especially important if you deal with redness or irritation.3
- Reduces Redness and Dryness: Many people find that their skin looks less irritated and flaky when they get enough biotin. If you’ve ever noticed dry patches or red spots, adding biotin might help.
How to Get More Biotin
Biotin is found in many foods. Here are some of my favorite easy options to add to your diet:
- Eggs: Eggs are a fantastic source of biotin, but remember that it’s mostly in the yolk.
- Nuts and Seeds: Almonds, walnuts and sunflower seeds are rich in biotin.
- Leafy Greens: Spinach and kale contain small amounts of biotin, plus lots of other nutrients good for skin.
- Food Alone May Not Be Enough: If you eat these foods and continue to have dry skin, a biotin supplement might be helpful.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids: The Skin Protector
Omega-3 fatty acids are healthy fats that protect skin by keeping it soft and reducing inflammation. They help build strong cell walls, which means that your skin holds onto moisture better.
How Omega-3s Benefit Your Skin
- Reduces Inflammation: Omega-3s help lower inflammation, which can reduce redness and swelling in the skin. This makes them great for anyone who deals with acne or other skin irritation.4
- Improves Skin Elasticity: Omega-3s make skin more flexible, which helps prevent wrinkles and fine lines.5
- Locks in Moisture: Omega-3s help keep skin hydrated by strengthening cell walls, keeping your skin soft and smooth.6
How to Get More Omega-3s
Here are some of my top foods rich in omega-3s:
- Fatty Fish: Salmon, sardines and trout are excellent sources of omega-3s.
- Flaxseeds and Chia Seeds: These seeds are plant-based sources of omega-3s.
- Walnuts: A handful of walnuts is a tasty way to add omega-3s to your diet.
- Omega-3 Supplements: Fish oil supplements can be a good choice if you don’t eat much fish.
Collagen: The Youthful Skin Protein
Collagen is the most abundant protein in our bodies and is found in our skin, hair and nails. It gives skin structure and elasticity, which keeps it firm and prevents sagging. As we age, collagen production slows down, which can lead to wrinkles and fine lines.
How Collagen Benefits Your Skin
- Reduces Wrinkles: Collagen helps smooth out fine lines and wrinkles by providing a firm structure under the skin.7
- Improves Skin Firmness: With more collagen, skin becomes plumper and more resilient, giving it a youthful look.7
- Helps Skin Heal: Collagen also plays a role in healing, so slow-healing wounds can resolve faster.8
How to Get More Collagen
Here are my go-to’s to boost collagen levels:
- Collagen-Rich Foods: Bone broth, chicken skin and fish skin contain collagen.
- Collagen Supplements: Many people take collagen peptides in an easy-to-drink powder. These can easily be added to your favorite drink or smoothie.
Skin-Friendly Foods to Include in Your Diet
In addition to biotin, omega-3s and collagen, other nutrients are also important for skin health. Here are some additional foods I recommend to add to your diet to make sure you’re covering all the bases:
- Avocado: Avocados contain healthy fats and vitamin E, both of which help keep skin soft and moisturized.
- Sweet Potatoes: Rich in beta-carotene, sweet potatoes can protect skin from sun damage and keep it glowing.
- Berries: Blueberries, strawberries and raspberries are high in antioxidants, which fight damage from free radicals and keep skin looking young.
- Tomatoes: Tomatoes are full of vitamin C and antioxidants, which help protect skin and reduce redness.
- Water: Drink half your weight in ounces of water per day. Choose spring-, artesian- or glacial-sourced water. This will keep your skin hydrated.
Final Thoughts: Putting It All Together
Healthy, glowing skin doesn’t come from just one thing—it’s a combination of getting the right nutrients, staying hydrated and caring for your skin. By adding foods and supplements rich in biotin, omega-3s and collagen to your diet, you’re giving your skin the support it needs to look and feel its best.
If you struggle with dry skin, thinning hair or brittle nails, biotin supplements may help. And if you want smoother, more youthful skin, consider collagen supplements or foods like bone broth. Adding omega-3s from fish, seeds or nuts can also improve skin hydration and reduce redness.
When you put it all together, you’ll be on your way to radiant, beautiful skin in no time. Remember, the best skincare routine starts from the inside out—so eat well, stay hydrated and enjoy the benefits of healthier, beautiful skin inside and out!

Conquering Chronic Inflammation and How Nopalea Can Help
written by Paul Bernitt, DHH
Hello, readers! I’m Paul Bernitt, a board-certified Doctor of Holistic Health, here to talk about a health problem that impacts millions every day and is the number one health risk according to leading world health institutions—chronic inflammation. While inflammation is a natural process that our bodies use to protect us, it can become harmful when it sticks around for too long.
Chronic inflammation can damage cells, tissues and organs over time, leading to many serious health issues. Let’s look at the top causes of chronic inflammation and discuss how Nopalea®, a natural wellness drink made from the fruit of the prickly pear, specifically the ruby red opuntia ficus-indica, may help reduce inflammation and support your overall health.
Understanding Chronic Inflammation
Inflammation is part of your body’s defense system. When you’re injured or fighting off an infection, inflammation is a response that helps with healing. Acute inflammation is short term and usually subsides after the issue is resolved. Chronic inflammation, on the other hand, occurs when the body stays in a prolonged state of alert, leading to continuous inflammation that can harm healthy tissues and cause various health problems. Let’s discuss the underlying causes of chronic inflammation and how Nopalea may help reduce it.1
-
Unhealthy Lifestyle: Triggering Elevated Lipids and Glucose
Poor eating habits and lack of physical activity are two of the biggest contributors to chronic inflammation, and they often go hand in hand. Diets high in processed foods, added sugars and unhealthy fats can lead to elevated levels of lipids (fats) and glucose (sugar) in the bloodstream. When these levels are consistently high, they cause oxidative stress and chronic inflammation, putting you at greater risk for heart disease, diabetes and other health issues.2
Physical inactivity compounds the issue. When we don’t exercise, our bodies can’t regulate blood sugar and cholesterol as effectively, leading to more inflammation. Regular physical activity helps control weight, improves blood circulation and reduces the inflammatory markers associated with high lipid and glucose levels.3
How Nopalea Can Help: Nopalea is a drink made from the fruit of the prickly pear, or ruby red opuntia ficus-indica, known for its powerful antioxidants. These antioxidants help combat oxidative stress, a primary driver of inflammation caused by high glucose and lipids. In addition
to eating healthy and getting enough physical activity, drinking Nopalea daily can support your body in managing inflammation, while you make healthy choices to keep blood sugar and cholesterol levels in check.
-
Chronic Stress: Fueling Inflammation from the Inside Out
Stress isn’t just a feeling; it has physical effects, too. When we experience stress, our bodies release a hormone called cortisol. Cortisol can be helpful in small amounts, helping us cope with immediate threats. When we’re under constant stress, though, cortisol levels remain high, leading to inflammation. This chronic stress response can also weaken the immune system, making the body more vulnerable to illnesses and keeping it in a constant state of low-level inflammation.4
How Nopalea Can Help: Nopalea contains natural anti-inflammatory compounds like betalains, which can help reduce inflammation and support your body’s ability to cope with stress. When inflammation levels are managed, the immune system can function better. Adding Nopalea to your daily routine may help keep inflammation in check as you navigate through difficult times.
-
Environmental Toxins: Fighting Off Hidden Inflammation Triggers
Our environment is filled with pollutants, from air pollution to chemicals in cleaning products and pesticides. These toxins can enter the body through the air we breathe, the water we drink or even the surfaces we touch. Over time, the body has to work harder to defend against these invaders, leading to chronic inflammation as it tries to cleanse itself of these harmful substances.5
How Nopalea Can Help: The antioxidants in Nopalea help counteract the damage caused by environmental toxins. By neutralizing free radicals and reducing oxidative stress, Nopalea assists the body in recovering from exposure to pollutants, ultimately helping to lower inflammation and protect healthy cells from damage.
-
Infections and Autoimmune Diseases: When the Immune System Won’t Quit
Infections from bacteria, viruses and other pathogens often cause short-term inflammation while the body fights off the invaders. When infections linger, or when autoimmune diseases develop, the immune system can go into overdrive, attacking healthy cells and tissues. This can cause ongoing inflammation that may damage organs and lead to other chronic conditions.6
How Nopalea Can Help: Nopalea’s anti-inflammatory properties, particularly the betalains it contains, help reduce inflammation associated with autoimmune conditions and lingering infections. Adding Nopalea to your wellness routine provides additional support to the immune system, making it easier for the body to manage inflammation and maintain healthier, more balanced immune responses so you can recover faster.
How Reducing Inflammation Improves Body Functions
Keeping inflammation under control has benefits for many systems in the body. Here’s how reducing inflammation can improve your health:
- Better Heart Health: Chronic inflammation is linked to heart disease. When inflammation is reduced, your heart and blood vessels can function more efficiently, lowering the risk of heart-related problems.7
- Improved Joint Mobility: Inflammation can cause pain and stiffness in joints. Reducing it helps improve movement, making it easier to stay active without discomfort.
- Stronger Immune System: When your immune system isn’t constantly fighting inflammation, it can focus on actual threats, helping protect you from illness.
- Increased Energy Levels: Chronic inflammation often makes people feel sluggish. Reducing it can lead to higher energy levels and an overall feeling of wellbeing.8
- Sharper Mental Clarity: Research has shown a connection between inflammation and mental health. Reducing inflammation can help improve mood, focus and clarity.8
Final Thoughts
Chronic inflammation is a serious health issue, but it’s one we can address with awareness and smart choices. By understanding the main causes and incorporating natural ways to support our bodies, we can improve our overall health. Nopalea, made from the prickly pear cactus, is a natural and effective option for reducing inflammation and supporting your wellness goals.9
Remember, small changes make a big difference. Whether you’re improving your diet, getting more exercise, managing stress or adding Nopalea to your routine, each step you take helps you get healthier.

Unlocking the Power of Biotin: How This Supplement Can Support Your Health
By Paul Bernitt, DHH
Welcome to this month’s edition of Healthier You! In this issue, we’re diving into an essential nutrient that’s become popular in health circles: biotin. You might have heard people say that biotin is great for your hair, skin and nails, but this nutrient does a lot more than that! Let’s explore the science behind biotin, its benefits and how you can make sure you’re getting enough of it to keep your body strong and healthy.
What is Biotin, and Why Do We Need It?
Biotin, also known as vitamin B7, is part of the B vitamin family. This group of vitamins is known for helping our bodies turn food into energy. B vitamins, including biotin, play an important role in keeping our cells, nerves and muscles healthy. Biotin is especially useful in helping the body break down fats, proteins and carbohydrates, turning them into the energy we need for our daily lives.
Our bodies don’t produce biotin on their own, so we need to get it from food or supplements. When we don’t get enough biotin, it can lead to issues such as thinning hair and brittle nails, skin problems, low energy, and even damage to nerves and brain cells. So, getting the right amount of biotin is important for keeping our bodies running smoothly.
The Benefits of Biotin for Hair, Skin and Nails
One of the main reasons biotin is so popular is because of its effects on supporting healthy hair, skin and nails. Here’s how it helps:
- Stronger Hair: Biotin is known to improve hair strength, thickness and shine. It’s thought to help produce keratin, a protein that makes up hair, skin and nails. Research shows that biotin may help people with thinning hair grow healthier, stronger strands.1
- Healthier Skin: Biotin supports healthy skin by helping with the production of fatty acids. These fats keep your skin moisturized, which can prevent dryness and flakiness. In fact, low levels of biotin have been linked to skin rashes and conditions like dermatitis, where the skin becomes red and scaly.2
- Stronger Nails: If you have weak or brittle nails, biotin may help. Studies suggest that biotin supplements can improve nail thickness and reduce the risk of breaking and splitting.3
How Biotin Boosts Your Energy
Biotin doesn’t just work wonders on hair, skin and nails; it also helps convert food into energy. It plays an essential role in metabolizing the fats, proteins and carbohydrates that we eat. Think of it as a helper for your body’s “engine” that helps turn the fuel (food) into the power you need to move, think and play.4
When your biotin levels are too low, it can make you feel sluggish or even tired because your body isn’t able to make enough energy. I have witnessed the power of B vitamins, including biotin; countless people who have a healthy amount often report feeling more energetic and focused throughout the day. Biotin is found in TriVita’s GlucoManage to help manage glucose levels by enhancing the process of converting food into energy and in Alfred Libby’s Super B-12 to enhance energy production.
Biotin and Brain Health
Biotin supports not only physical energy but also mental clarity and brain health. It helps to keep nerve cells functioning well, which can affect mood, memory and concentration. Scientists believe that biotin may protect the nervous system by helping to prevent damage to nerve cells.5 This is especially important as we age, since our brains need extra care to stay sharp and healthy. Other brain health nutrients shown to support healthy development of brain cells and protection from neuro degeneration include Bacopa monnieri, pantothenic acid and lithium orotate found in TriVita’s NeuroShine®.
Sources of Biotin: Food vs. Supplements
I recommend the following foods with biotin, but keep in mind that diet alone may not be enough for your specific needs.
- Eggs
- Nuts and seeds
- Whole grains
- Meat and fish
- Dairy products
- Leafy greens like spinach
Dr Paul’s Bottom Line
Biotin is an amazing nutrient with benefits that go beyond what most people realize. From boosting your energy to supporting hair, skin and nail health, biotin is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. If you’re looking to improve any of these areas, consider adding biotin-rich foods to your diet or speaking with a healthcare provider about supplements.
Whether you’re enjoying foods rich in biotin or taking a supplement, this powerful nutrient can help you feel like the best version of yourself! Remember, the road to a healthier you is all about balance and knowing what’s best for your body.

Take Charge of Your Brain Health: Signs, Symptoms and Solutions
by Paul Bernitt, DHH
Have you ever felt frustrated because your brain just doesn’t seem to keep up with your life? Forgetting where you left your keys, feeling distracted during conversations, or lying awake at night unable to calm your racing mind—these are more than just minor inconveniences. They can be deeply unsettling and even make you question if something more serious is going on.
I get it. I’ve talked to so many people who feel the same way. The truth is, life’s challenges—stress, aging, poor sleep or even nutritional gaps—can take a toll on your brain health. But, you’re not powerless. There are things you can do, starting right now, to protect and enhance your brain health. Let’s talk about how you can strengthen your memory, focus and overall mental clarity with small, science-backed changes in your daily routine.
Are You Feeling This Way? Let’s Talk About the Warning Signs
It’s easy to shrug off brain fog, memory lapses or poor sleep as “just getting older.” But these symptoms are often your brain’s way of telling you it needs more support.
- Memory lapses: Losing track of appointments or forgetting names.
- Difficulty concentrating: Struggling to focus, even on things you care about.
- Feeling mentally foggy: Like your brain is working through quicksand.
- Poor sleep: Tossing and turning, waking up exhausted instead of refreshed.
If any of this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. According to the American Psychological Association, nearly 40% of adults experience symptoms of cognitive decline at some point in their lives.1
You’re Not Powerless: Small Steps, Big Results
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when your brain isn’t working the way you want it to. But, let me reassure you: you are not stuck. The brain is an amazing organ that responds beautifully to care, and there are proven strategies that can help.
- Let’s Start with Sleep
I can’t emphasize this enough: sleep is the foundation of brain health. When you don’t get enough, it’s like running your car on fumes. You’re not alone in this struggle—nearly 70 million Americans deal with chronic sleep issues.2
One simple solution is using light therapy to help reset your natural sleep-wake cycle. I recommend the Smart Light Wellness Lamp, which uses 40-hertz technology to stimulate the brain’s natural rhythms. This kind of light therapy can help you relax in the evening, focus better during the day and wake up feeling more refreshed.
- Your Brain Needs the Right Nutrition
I’ve seen countless patients whose brain health improved dramatically just by addressing nutrient deficiencies. One of the biggest culprits is a lack of vitamin B12. As we age, it becomes harder for our bodies to absorb this crucial vitamin, which can lead to memory issues and mental fatigue.3
For a fast and effective solution, I recommend Alfred Libby’s Slow Dissolve Super B12 containing 3,000 mcg of B12 plus vitamins B9, B6, biotin and ginseng for additional support. This easy-to-use supplement delivers a powerful dose directly into your bloodstream, supporting healthy nerve function and boosting your energy levels.
- Long-Term Brain Support Matters, Too
If you’re feeling like your memory and focus need more than just a boost, consider targeted supplements designed to nourish your brain. I’ve been impressed by the benefits of NeuroShine®, which includes:
- BacoMind® (Bacopa monnieri): A plant extract shown to improve memory and reduce mental fatigue4
- Pantothenic Acid (Vitamin B5): Essential for creating neurotransmitters that help with mood and focus5
- Lithium Orotate: A low-dose form of lithium that is neuroprotective and can improve mood and help you feel more balanced6,7
A Personal Note on Lifestyle Changes
I know it’s not easy to change habits. Life is busy, and it can feel like there’s no time to prioritize your brain health. But let me tell you, even small changes can make a world of difference.
- Move your body: Even a daily 30-minute walk can improve blood flow to the brain and boost mood.
- Eat for your brain: Include foods like salmon, walnuts and blueberries in your meals. These are rich in omega-3s and antioxidants, which protect your brain cells.
- Calm your mind: Stress takes a toll on the brain. Find time to journal about what you are grateful for, meditate, pray or simply breathe deeply—it’s not a luxury; it’s a necessity.
Dr. Dale Bredesen, author of The End of Alzheimer’s, emphasizes the importance of diet in brain health: “Eliminate simple carbohydrates—sugar, bread, pasta, and anything with high-fructose corn syrup. This change alone can have a significant impact on brain health.”8
You’re in Control, and I’m Here to Help
Your brain is remarkable, and it’s never too late to give it the support it needs. Whether you start with small lifestyle changes, explore light therapy or try targeted supplements such as B12, Bacopa monnieri and lithium orotate, every step you take will make a difference.
I want you to know that you’re not in this alone. I’m here to guide you, and I deeply believe in your ability to create a healthier, sharper mind. Your brain has been working hard for you—now it’s time to return the favor.

Biotin Deficiency and Inflammation: Keys to Healthy Skin, Hair, and Nails
by Paul Bernitt, DHH
Today we’re taking a deeper look into biotin deficiency and how it can lead to inflammation in the body. Biotin, also known as vitamin B7, plays a major role in helping our body turn food into energy, keeping skin, hair and nails strong, and maintaining a healthy nervous system. But when the body lacks biotin, it can trigger inflammation, leading to a range of symptoms that can affect daily life.
Thankfully, products like Nopalea®, made from the prickly pear ruby red Opuntia ficus-indica, have been shown to help reduce inflammatory markers in the body. Combined with biotin supplementation, it can support recovery from biotin deficiency and improve overall health.
Understanding Biotin Deficiency and Inflammation
Biotin deficiency can happen for a variety of reasons. People who are at risk include those with certain digestive disorders, individuals on long-term medications that interfere with biotin absorption, and even pregnant or breastfeeding women who need extra biotin. When biotin levels drop too low, the body can’t produce enough energy or keep up with essential bodily functions, which can lead to inflammation.
Signs and Symptoms of Inflammation Due to Biotin Deficiency
- Skin Irritation and Rashes: One of the first signs of biotin deficiency is red, scaly skin, especially around the eyes, nose and mouth. This irritation is a type of inflammatory response that occurs when the skin cells aren’t producing enough fatty acids to stay smooth and hydrated. This dryness can lead to rashes that may look red and feel itchy.1
- Joint and Muscle Pain: Low biotin levels can cause muscles and joints to become sore or stiff. This pain is caused by inflammation in the muscles and joints, a sign that the body is struggling to keep up with energy demands. Without biotin to help turn food into energy, cells may become inflamed and more sensitive to pain.2
- Fatigue and Weakness: When biotin is low, the body has trouble creating enough energy, which can make you feel tired and sluggish. This lack of energy can also cause inflammation in tissues, leading to that heavy, weak feeling in the muscles.3
- Digestive Issues: Biotin deficiency can affect the digestive tract, sometimes causing inflammation in the intestines. Symptoms may include bloating, stomach pain and even nausea. When biotin levels are restored, these symptoms often improve as the inflammation subsides.4
- Mood Changes and Brain Fog: When inflammation affects the nervous system, it can lead to changes in mood or even brain fog, where thinking feels slow and unfocused. This is because biotin helps keep nerves healthy, and without it, nerve cells can become inflamed, impacting brain function and overall mood. 5
- Brittle Nails and Hair Loss: Hair loss and brittle nails are also symptoms of biotin deficiency, often worsened by inflammation around the hair follicles and nail beds. Without biotin, the cells responsible for growing strong hair and nails can become irritated and inflamed, leading to weaker strands and nails.6
How Inflammation Affects Biotin Levels
Inflammation can further lower biotin levels because it makes it harder for the body to absorb vitamins. Chronic inflammation, especially in the gut, may prevent the body from properly absorbing nutrients like biotin, even if they are present in your diet. This creates a cycle of deficiency and inflammation that can be tough to break without additional support.
How Nopalea Can Help with Inflammation
Nopalea is a drink made from the fruit of the nopal cactus, which is naturally rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds called betalains. These betalains have been shown to reduce inflammation in the body and may help relieve some of the symptoms of biotin deficiency by lowering inflammatory markers. Here’s how the antioxidants and betalains in Nopalea may help:
- Reducing Joint Pain and Muscle Soreness: Nopalea has natural anti-inflammatory properties that have been shown in a double-blind placebo-based study to ease joint and muscle pain, improve range of motion, reduce CRP, the marker for measuring inflammation in the body, and reduce reliance on pain medication.7
By reducing inflammation, Nopalea may help people feel more comfortable and support recovery in additional ways.7
- Improving Skin Health: Nopalea’s antioxidants may also help reduce skin inflammation, making it a great addition to a biotin supplement routine. Together, they can help improve the skin’s moisture and reduce redness, helping to clear up the irritation caused by biotin deficiency.
- Supporting Digestive Health: Inflammation in the gut can make it harder to absorb biotin and other vitamins. Drinking Nopalea can help soothe the digestive tract, potentially improving nutrient absorption, which may make it easier for your body to use biotin and other essential vitamins.
- Enhancing Energy and Reducing Fatigue: Since biotin helps create energy, taking a supplement to restore normal levels can bring energy back to the body. Combined with Nopalea’s inflammation-fighting benefits, this can further support a balanced energy level by reducing the fatigue and weakness caused by inflammation.
Restoring Biotin Levels with Supplementation
For people experiencing symptoms of biotin deficiency, taking a biotin supplement can be an effective way to boost levels back to normal. Pairing biotin supplements with Nopalea can provide a balanced approach to managing both deficiency and inflammation. Biotin supplements help restore the vitamin directly, while Nopalea’s anti-inflammatory properties can ease discomfort and improve overall wellness.
Final Thoughts: Building a Healthier Routine
Biotin deficiency can lead to inflammation that affects various parts of the body, from the skin to the muscles and even the brain. By recognizing these signs and taking steps to restore biotin levels, we can support our body’s natural functions and feel our best.
For those looking for a natural way to manage inflammation while supporting biotin levels, adding Nopalea to your routine may be worth considering. As always, talk to a healthcare provider to make sure the combination is right for you. Remember, staying informed and listening to your body are essential parts of a healthy lifestyle.
With the right support and care, you can enjoy a healthier, more energetic life—free from the discomfort of inflammation and biotin deficiency.

Hearing God’s Voice in an Ever-Changing World
by Paul Bernitt, DHH
Hearing God’s Voice in an Ever-Changing World
I can recall times of life as a pastor, father, husband, and health practitioner when I needed to hear God’s voice. There are times when I have been withdrawn and unattentive to God’s voice for a variety of reasons. As I have matured, I have recognized the difference between hearing His voice and being coulded with something else. I have learned to take time daily to hear His voice and to follow through with His will in my life even when it feels uncomfortable. I have come to realize that I am not my own, I have been bought with a price and I must stay attentive to His will for my life for not only my personal benefit but also for the benefit of all I come in contact with.
In today’s fast-paced world, we are surrounded by endless noise. Social media, television, news, and even our daily interactions constantly tell us what to think, how to live, and where to find happiness. But in the middle of all this noise, there is one voice we cannot afford to miss—God’s voice. In John 10:27-28, Jesus says, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.”
This passage powerfully reminds us of God’s deep love for us and promises that we are His forever. More importantly, it offers guidance on how we can live in a world where Christian values are increasingly challenged and questioned. As believers, it’s vital that we hear God’s voice above the noise and distractions of the world. Let’s explore why hearing His voice is so important and practical steps we can take to stay connected to God in an ever-changing world.
The World’s Noise vs. God’s Voice
Imagine standing in a crowded room where everyone is talking at once. It’s hard to hear one specific person, right? This is what it’s like to live in a world where so many voices are competing for our attention. The world tells us that success, money, and fame are the only things that matter. It pushes worldly values that often contradict the teachings of Christ. The Worldly carnal views push us to focus on material things, pursue selfish ambitions, and live for ourselves.
But God’s voice calls us to a different way of living. He calls us to a life of love, peace, and purpose that is centered on Him. Hearing God’s voice means tuning out the world’s carnal messages and focusing on His truth. It means prioritizing His Word and listening for His guidance in every area of our lives so we will know what to do when we need to do it for our personal benefit and the benefit of those around us. While the world’s values may change, God’s voice remains constant, offering us direction, wisdom, and peace.
God Knows Us and Our Struggles
One of the most comforting parts of John 10:27-28 is when Jesus says, “I know them.” This means that God knows us personally—our fears, challenges, and hopes. In a world where it often feels like we are just another face in the crowd, it’s incredible to realize that the Creator of the universe knows each one of us intimately. He not only knows us, but He lives in us to help and guide us along life’s journey. Because He lives in us He knows and feels what we are going through, the struggles we face, and the pressure we feel to conform to the voices of the world’s values.
In modern society, it can be especially difficult to stand firm in our Christian beliefs. Our faith is constantly being tested and questioned. But we don’t face these challenges alone. God understands what we are up against and promises to walk with us and in us through every trial and lead us to a deeper understanding of Him and His Divine purpose in it all. In fact, the very challenges we face and overcome strengthen our relationship with Him, as we learn to trust His voice for guidance and comfort.
Following God’s Lead in a Challenging World
Hearing God’s voice is the first step, but it’s not enough by itself. Jesus also says in John 10:27, “They follow me.” Following God means trusting Him, even when it’s difficult or unpopular. It means making choices that align with His Word, even when the world around us is heading in a different direction.
In today’s culture, where Christian values are often misunderstood or rejected, it can be tempting to go along with the crowd. But following God means we must stand firm in our faith and share the light we have been freely given with others. This might look different for each of us. It could mean being kind to someone who has hurt us, standing up for the Truth of God’s Word, or simply living with integrity when no one else is watching.
By following God, we are choosing to live a life that honors Him above all else. This may come with challenges, but it also brings things money cannot buy, such as hope, peace, and greater purpose. We know that when we follow Jesus, we are walking the path He has set out for us—a path that leads to eternal life.
The Gift of Eternal Life
Jesus says in John 10:28, “I give them eternal life, and they will never perish.” This is one of the greatest promises we have as Christians. Eternal life is not something we can earn; it’s a gift from God through Jesus Christ. By accepting Jesus as our Savior and following Him, we are given the promise of a life with God that never ends.
This promise gives us hope, especially in difficult times. In a constantly changing world where nothing seems certain, we can hold on to the unchanging promise of eternal life. I can assure you that after you go to Heaven and are there for about 100 billion years, you won’t fret over the temporary difficulties you experienced here. This life on earth is temporary, but our life with God is forever. No matter what we face here, we know that our future is secure in Christ.
Protected as God’s Children
The final part of John 10:28 is a powerful assurance: “No one will snatch them out of my hand.” Once we belong to God, we are His and He is ours forever. We are safe in His hands, and nothing can separate us from His love and His generous favor. This promise is especially important in a world that often feels uncertain and unstable. As God’s children, we are under His protection. Just like a good father looks after his children, God watches over us as His children to guide us and keep us safe.
Even though we may face challenges and difficulties in life, we can trust that God is always with us. We don’t need to fear the future because the future is secure in His love. He has promised to protect us and to lead us through every storm.
Practical Steps to Hear God’s Voice
So how do we hear God’s voice in such a noisy world? Here are some practical steps to help us stay connected to Him:
- Spend Time in Prayer: Set aside daily time to pray and listen for God’s guidance. Prayer is a conversation, and it’s important to listen as much as we talk.
- Read the Bible Regularly: God speaks to us through His Word. Make Bible reading a daily habit and ask God to reveal His truth to you through Scripture.
- Practice Stillness and Silence: In the busyness of life, find moments of quiet to be still before God. This is where we often hear Him the clearest.
- Seek Godly Counsel: Surround yourself with other believers who can encourage and support you in your faith. Sometimes, God speaks through the wisdom of others.
- Keep a Prayer Journal: Writing down your prayers and any insights from God can help you see how He is working in your life.
- Worship and Praise: Worship connects us to God’s heart and helps us focus on Him, making it easier to hear His voice.
- Pay Attention to God’s Creation: Being in nature can help us hear God more clearly. Take time to enjoy His creation and listen for His voice.
- Obey Promptings from the Holy Spirit: When you feel a nudge to do something good, follow it. Obeying these promptings helps you recognize God’s voice more easily.
- Be Patient and Persistent: Hearing God’s voice takes time. Be patient and keep seeking Him, even when you don’t hear Him right away.
- Listen: God is always speaking. Take time to intentionally listen.
Conclusion
In a world where Christian values are being constantly challenged, it is more important than ever to hear God’s voice and follow Him. His voice brings peace, guidance, and protection, and His promises offer hope in uncertain times to you and those you come in contact with. As we seek to hear Him, let’s remember that God knows us, loves us, is leading us, and is in us. No matter what we face, we can rest in the assurance that we are His, and nothing can snatch us out of His hand. Let’s make hearing and following God’s voice the foundation of our lives, trusting in His promise of eternal life and the security of being His beloved children.

Mental Health and Cognitive Wellness How to Prevent Memory Loss: Habits and Diet Changes for Cognitive Wellness
by Paul Bernitt
Welcome, Healthier You readers! As a passionate advocate for inspiring others to achieve greater wellness, helping people understand simple daily activities that can help maintain cognitive function is at the top of my list.
As we age, keeping our minds sharp and our spirits high becomes increasingly important. Our brain health plays a huge role in how well we think, remember, and interact with the world around us. In this issue, I will reveal practical steps you can take to boost mental health and cognitive wellness, focusing on habits and diet changes that can help prevent memory loss.
Understanding Mental Health and Cognitive Wellness
Mental health is essential to our overall well-being. It includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. For those of us over 50 including myself, maintaining mental health can sometimes feel like a challenge due to changes in our bodies and lifestyles. Cognitive wellness, on the other hand, refers specifically to our brain function and memory. Did you know that our brain can keep changing and growing throughout our lives? This is called neuroplasticity. This means we can actively work on keeping our brains healthy!
Why Memory Loss Happens
Memory loss can happen for a variety of reasons. Sometimes, it’s due to normal aging. Other times, it can be more serious, like dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. Some factors that can increase risk and contribute to memory loss include:
- Chronic stress
- Lack of sleep
- Poor diet
- Not enough physical activity
- Not enough mental activity
- Social isolation
But don’t worry! By making some positive changes, you can help keep your memory sharp and your mind alert.
Habits for Cognitive Wellness
- Stay Active: While the brain is only about 2% of our body weight, it uses 20% of our oxygen. Exercise increases blood flow, which brings more oxygen and nutrients to the brain. Aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise most days of the week. This could include walking, swimming, or even dancing!
- Get Enough Sleep: Sleep is vital for memory consolidation. This is when your brain stores new information and skills. Try to get 7-9 hours of sleep each night. Establish a bedtime routine that helps you relax, like reading or listening to soothing music.
- Keep Your Mind Engaged: Challenge your brain regularly! This can be done through puzzles, reading, learning a new skill, developing a new hobby or playing strategy games. Studies show that lifelong learning keeps your brain healthy.
- Stay Social: Interacting with others is vital. Make an effort to connect with family and friends regularly. Join clubs, participate in community events, or volunteer. Social engagement can stimulate your mind and improve your mood.
- Practice Mindfulness and Stress Reduction: High levels of stress can harm your mental health. Techniques like mindfulness, meditation, and deep breathing can help lower stress levels. Consider a gratitude journal. Even just taking a few minutes each day to sit quietly and focus on your breath can make a difference.
Dietary Changes for Cognitive Wellness
What we eat plays a meaningful role in brain health. Here are some science-based ingredients shown to enhance brain function:
- Vitamin B-12: This vitamin helps keep your brain healthy and is crucial for producing red blood cells. It can also help with memory and mood. Foods rich in B-12 include fish, meat, eggs, and fortified cereals. If you’re vegetarian or vegan, you may want to look into taking a B-12 supplement.
- Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Omega-3s are found in fatty fish like salmon and sardines, as well as in walnuts and flaxseeds. These healthy fats are important for brain function and can even help reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. They are linked to improved memory and mood, so consider adding more of these foods to your diet.
- Bacopa Monnieri: This is a plant often used in traditional medicine. Research has shown that Bacopa Monnieri may improve memory and cognitive function. You can find it in supplement form, or look for teas and extracts that contain it. It’s important to talk with your doctor before starting any new supplement.
- Lithium Orotate: This is a compound that has been studied for its potential effects on mood and memory. It is believed to have neuroprotective properties, which means it may help support brain health. Lithium orotate is available as a supplement, but consulting with a healthcare professional before use is essential to ensure it’s safe for you.
- Pantothenic Acid (Vitamin B5): This vitamin plays an important role in energy production and the synthesis of neurotransmitters, which help transmit messages in the brain. Foods rich in B5 include whole grains, eggs, avocados, and broccoli.
Putting It All Together: Creating Your Cognitive Wellness Plan
Now that we’ve explored habits and dietary changes, how can you put it all together to promote a healthier brain? Here’s a simple plan you can follow:
Step 1: Set Goals
Start by setting small, achievable goals for both your physical activity and mental engagement. For example, try to walk for 20 minutes a day, or challenge yourself to complete a puzzle once a week.
Step 2: Make a Meal Plan
Create a weekly menu that includes foods rich in the brain-boosting ingredients we discussed. Choose at least two meals a week that include fatty fish like salmon or sardines, and snack on nuts like walnuts and seeds to get those essential Omega-3s.
Step 3: Join a Community
Find local groups that interest you. Whether it’s a book club, a gardening group, or a table tennis team, engaging with others will keep your mind sharp and help you build social connections.
Step 4: Schedule Downtime
Don’t forget to give yourself time to relax. Practice mindfulness, gratitude or meditation for a few minutes every day. This could be as simple as sitting quietly while focusing on your breathing.
Step 5: Monitor Your Progress
Keep track of your goals and activities in a journal. Note how you feel physically, mentally and spiritually. This can help you see the progress you’re making and areas where you might want to adjust your plan.
Step 6: Take Supplements:
While a healthy diet is shown to improve brain function, supplements can help us supplement an already healthy diet to optimize brain function. Choose quality supplements from a trusted supplement company like TriVita. Supplements such as TriVita’s Brain Health Pack consisting of Alfred Libby’s B12, Neuroshine and Omega Prime have the nutrients you need to preserve and enhance brain function.
Additional Tips for Mental Health and Cognitive Wellness
- Hydrate: Drinking enough water is essential for overall health, including brain function. Dehydration can lead to confusion and poor concentration. Enhance your water with a hydrogen water infuser Hydrogen is the super anti-oxidant that can bridge the blood brain barrier.
- Limit Sugar and Processed Foods: High sugar and processed food diets can lead to inflamed brain cells, which is not good for cognition. Focus on whole food options like fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and lean proteins.
- Intermittent Fasting: Time-restricted eating causes changes in expression of genes in tissue and helps the body during rest and activity. A 2021 study of 883 adults in Italy indicated those who restricted their food intake to ten hours a day were less likely to have cognitive impairment compared to those eating without time restrictions.
- Engage in Creative Activities: Explore your creative side through art, music, hobbies or writing. These activities can stimulate the brain in different ways and enhance cognitive function.
- Regular Health Check-ups: Keep up with regular medical check-ups to monitor your overall health, including brain health. Your doctor can provide important screenings for cognitive issues.
Conclusion
Remember, maintaining mental health and cognitive wellness is a journey, not a destination. Maintaining your brain function will not only enhance your memory, cognition and recall, it will enhance your mood, sleep and your overall bodily functions. Prioritize your brain health and live with greater physical, emotional and spiritual wellness so you can continue to do the things you love and are purposed to do.

The Dangers of Chronic Inflammation and How Nopalea® Can Help
written by Paul Bernitt, Board-Certified Doctor of Holistic Health
Inflammation is something we all experience at some point. You might notice swelling or redness after an injury or even when you catch a cold. That’s your body’s natural response, and it’s actually helpful for fighting off infections and healing wounds. But, what happens when inflammation doesn’t go away? When it becomes chronic? That’s when inflammation can turn from a helpful process to a harmful one.
In this blog, we will explore the dangers of chronic inflammation, how it happens and why it’s a problem. We’ll also look at how you can restore healthy inflammation, the benefits of betalains found in the nopal cactus fruit and the science behind a natural supplement called Nopalea.
What Is Inflammation?
Inflammation is a natural part of the body’s immune response. When your body detects something harmful—like an infection or an injury—it sends out immune cells to fight off the threat and begin the healing process. Inflammation happens during this process, which includes swelling, heat, redness and sometimes pain.
There are two types of inflammation: acute and chronic.
- Acute Inflammation is short-term and helps the body heal. For example, if you sprain your ankle, it may swell for a few days, but this will help the healing process.
- Chronic Inflammation happens when your body keeps producing inflammation over time, even when there’s no real threat. This is where things can go wrong.
The Dangers of Chronic Inflammation
Chronic inflammation occurs when your body keeps sending out inflammatory signals for weeks, months or even years. This can be very damaging over time. Instead of helping your body heal, chronic inflammation, while not a disease itself, can contribute to several health problems, including:1
-
- Heart Disease: Inflammation in your arteries can lead to plaque buildup, increasing the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
- Arthritis: Constant inflammation in your joints can lead to discomfort, stiffness and loss of function.
- Diabetes: Inflammation can interfere with how your body uses insulin, leading to high blood sugar levels and possibly even diabetes.
- Cancer: Long-term inflammation can damage DNA, which may lead to the development of cancerous cells.
- Allergies: Allergies are one of the top six leading causes of chronic illness in the United States, impacting over 50 million Americans annually. Asthma affects more than 24 million people nationwide, including over 6 million children. In 2015, 8.2% of adults and 8.4% of children were diagnosed with hay fever.
- Autoimmune Diseases: These diseases, like rheumatoid arthritis and lupus, involve chronic inflammation where the body attacks its own tissues.
Chronic inflammation not only affects specific areas of the body but can also have widespread effects. It can cause fatigue, mood issues, and even impact your ability to think clearly. In other words, chronic inflammation can make you feel “off” and increase your risk of serious diseases.
The Mechanisms of Chronic Inflammation
But how does inflammation go from being a good thing to a harmful process? It starts when the body’s immune system becomes unbalanced.2,/sup> Normally, the immune system turns on inflammation when it’s needed and turns it off when the threat has passed. However, with chronic inflammation, the “off” switch doesn’t work as it should.
Factors like poor diet, lack of exercise, stress and exposure to toxins can lead to ongoing inflammation. For example, eating a diet high in sugar and unhealthy fats can trigger your immune system to stay on high alert. As a result, inflammation continues even when there’s no injury or infection to fight off. This constant inflammation can harm healthy cells and tissues.
Restoring Healthy Inflammation
While chronic inflammation is dangerous, not all inflammation is bad. In fact, we need inflammation to stay healthy and fight off infections. So, the goal is not to eliminate inflammation altogether, but rather to restore healthy inflammation.
Healthy inflammation is your body’s natural response to healing. It should activate when necessary and then stop once the healing process is complete. To help restore balance in the body, we need to focus on reducing factors that lead to chronic inflammation and to support mechanisms that encourage healthy inflammation.
The Mechanisms of Healthy Inflammation
When inflammation is healthy, your body releases anti-inflammatory signals that help keep the immune response in check. This balance between pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory signals is key in preventing chronic inflammation. Your immune system should recognize when inflammation is no longer needed and turn it off.
Some of the ways to encourage healthy inflammation include:3
- Healthy Diet: Eating foods rich in antioxidants, such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains, can help protect the body from the effects of inflammation.
- Exercise: Physical activity helps reduce chronic inflammation and promotes healthy immune function.
- Stress Management: Techniques like reflection, deep breathing and getting enough sleep can help lower stress levels, which can also reduce inflammation.
- Supplements: Some natural supplements, like TriVita’s Nopalea, can help support healthy inflammation.
What Are Betalains?
Now, let’s talk about something called betalains. Betalains are plant-based pigments that give the fruit of the nopal cactus, also known as a prickly pear, its bright red and purple colors. But, betalains are more than just pretty pigments — they have powerful health benefits.
And God said, “Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed,
which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree,
in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.”
Genesis 1:29 (KJV)Betalains are known for their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. They help protect your cells from damage caused by free radicals, which are unstable molecules that can cause oxidative stress and inflammation. By neutralizing these free radicals, betalains can help reduce inflammation in the body.4
Research has shown that betalain-rich Nopalea can reduce markers of inflammation, such as C-reactive protein (CRP). High levels of CRP are often a sign of chronic inflammation in the body. By lowering CRP levels, betalains may help the body maintain healthy inflammation.
The Benefits of Nopal Cactus Fruit and Nopalea
Nopal cactus fruit has been used for centuries in traditional medicine for its health benefits, particularly in reducing inflammation. Nopalea, a wellness drink made from nopal cactus fruit, contains a high concentration of betalains, making it a great option for supporting healthy inflammation.
Some of the benefits of Nopalea include:5
- Reducing Inflammation: Nopalea helps lower chronic inflammation by providing the body with betalains, which reduce the production of inflammatory chemicals in the body.
- Supporting Joint Health: Many people with discomfort and stiffness in their joints have found relief by taking Nopalea.
- Improving Range of Motion: By reducing inflammation in the muscles and joints, Nopalea can improve your range of motion and make it easier to move more freely.
The Science Behind Nopalea
Nopalea isn’t just a traditional remedy; science backs up its benefits. Studies have shown that the betalains in Nopalea can help reduce inflammation and oxidative stress in the body. One study found that participants who took Nopalea had a significant reduction in CRP levels, which is a marker of inflammation.
In addition, the antioxidants in betalains protect the body’s cells from damage caused by oxidative stress. By reducing oxidative stress, betalains may help prevent certain chronic diseases and other conditions from developing.
Many people who take Nopalea report feeling better within weeks. Whether it’s less reliance on pain medication, better mobility or improved overall well-being, the benefits of Nopalea go beyond just fighting inflammation — it helps your body function better as a whole.
Conclusion: Supporting Your Body with Nopalea
Chronic inflammation is a serious issue that affects many aspects of our health. It can help reduce chronic inflammation related discomfort, stiffness and damage to tissues. But with the right approach, you can support your body in reducing chronic inflammation and restoring a healthy balance.
By eating a healthy diet, exercising, managing stress and incorporating supplements like Nopalea, you can help restore healthy inflammation. The betalains found in the nopal cactus fruit offer powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits that help your body heal naturally.
Nopalea is a great tool in the fight against chronic inflammation, and it’s backed by science. If you’re looking for a natural way to support your body, reduce inflammation and improve your overall well being, consider adding Nopalea to your daily routine.
It’s never too late to start supporting your health — one step at a time!

Strength in Adversity – Walking the Christian Path
Written by Paul Bernitt, DHH
It’s natural to desire peace and smooth paths in our daily lives, especially when we embark on our Christian journey. Truth be told, everyone experiences difficulty, but how we choose to respond to difficulty can make all the difference. We want a walk that feels easy, free of obstacles, and rich in blessings. But the truth is, God doesn’t call us to a life without challenge. He calls us to learn, grow, and adapt, and in my experience as a Pastor, these attributes rarely happen in comfort.
The Bible is filled with examples of how God uses adversity to refine His people. The Christian life is not about avoiding hardship but embracing it with faith, knowing that it serves a divine purpose to purge impurities deep within us all. In this issue of the Healthier You Newsletter, we reflect on how adversity produces spiritual maturity and strengthens our faith, drawing upon the wisdom of two key scriptures: Romans 5:3-5 and Proverbs 17:3.
Embracing Challenges: Romans 5:3-5
Romans 5:3-5 speaks directly to this truth:
“We also glory in our sufferings because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.”
These verses highlight a powerful message: suffering is not something to fear but rather something to embrace with joy, knowing that you can and will improve the quality of your life. This seems counterintuitive at first. Why would we take joy in our trials? Yet, God’s purpose is clear — suffering leads to perseverance, which in turn builds character. And that character produces hope. Think of it this way: I can be happy based on the happenings of my life, but joy is not contingent on what is happening outside of me. Joy is purely based on the inner strength we can reveal, such as perseverance, character, and hope for a better outcome.
In the Christian walk, trials are not obstacles but opportunities to become more like Christ. The hardships we face are meant to drive our awareness of who we truly are in Christ, helping us to develop endurance, strength, and hope that rests on God’s unfailing love. Through these moments of adversity, we are reminded that our faith is not in our circumstances but in a God who works all things together for our good (Romans 8:28).
The Refining Process: Proverbs 17:3
Proverbs 17:3 gives us another profound insight for this refining process:
“The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but the Lord tests the heart.”
Just as precious metals like silver and gold are refined by fire, so are our hearts tested and purified by God through our fiery trials. The crucible is a place of intense heat and pressure, but it’s necessary to remove impurities and bring out the true value of the metal.
Similarly, our hearts are refined in the furnace of life’s trials. While the refining process can be uncomfortable or even painful, it ultimately drives the impurities within us to the surface so they can be removed. This purifies and sanctifies our souls and makes us more like Christ. Imagine your potential as the dross—the impurities in your character—is removed as we go through the fire, allowing God’s nature to shine through us.
As a Pastor, I have seen the power of pain lead to tremendous breakthroughs. One time, a man was deeply hurt by someone he trusted. He carried that pain for a long time. I asked him, “Are you going to let sin have dominion over you?” He replied, “I didn’t commit a sin.” I then explained, “I am not saying you sinned; I am asking you if you are going to allow the sin against you to rob you of your joy, peace, and faith to overcome.” In the twinkling of an eye, this man saw how sin was robbing him of the life he deserved. His countenance changed, and he was set free that very moment.
Why God Allows Challenges
It’s common to wonder why a loving God would allow His children to face difficulties. If God loves us, shouldn’t He shield us from pain and suffering? But just as a loving parent allows their child to learn and grow through challenges, God allows us to face difficulties and challenges us to mature. The bottom line is that challenges challenge us to make us better, not bitter.
Consider this: a life without challenges would be a life without growth. God knows what we need to develop the fruits of the Spirit — love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). Often, these qualities are best cultivated in the fertile ground of adversity. Through experiencing frustration, we learn patience, through conflict, we learn peace, and through trials, we develop faithfulness.
God uses the difficulties we face to reveal where our faith is weak and where we need to trust Him more. God promises us that He will never place on us more than we can bear and says that all things work together for our good. He promises He will never leave us or forsake us and is an ever-present help in time of need. As we lean on Him, our faith grows stronger, and we develop the endurance needed to finish the race He has set before us.
The Example of Christ
There is no greater example of perseverance in the face of adversity than Jesus Christ. His life was not one of ease or comfort but one marked by suffering, rejection, and, ultimately, the cross. Yet, in every trial, Jesus trusted His Father’s plan and remained steadfast in His mission. Jesus did not go through difficulty just for the sake of difficulty. He experienced it so He could overcome it and share His victory with us. You see, through Christ’s victory, we become partakers of His Divine nature to overcome.
Hebrews 12:2 tells us, “For the joy set before Him, He endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Jesus endured the greatest suffering because He knew the eternal glory that awaited Him. He saw beyond the pain to the purpose and trusted in God’s perfect plan to overcome difficulty and share His victory with us..
As followers of Christ, we are called to follow in His footsteps and carry our own cross. When we face trials, we can see them as defeat and be victimized, or we can turn our pain into meaningful purpose. We must never forget our great forerunner, Jesus, as our example and find strength in knowing that He has walked the path before us and is ordering our steps. We are not alone in our suffering, and we are not without hope. Just as Christ was raised in victory, we, too, can overcome through Him.
The Fruit of Adversity
As difficult as it may be to accept, adversity is one of the primary ways God works in our lives to produce lasting fruit. It’s through adversity that we are tested and refined. It’s through adversity that our faith is strengthened. And it’s through adversity that we are transformed into the image of Christ.
James 1:2-4 echoes this truth:
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that testing your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
God’s ultimate goal for us is not comfort but maturity. He wants us to be “complete, not lacking anything. ” He uses trials to reveal weaknesses so they can be overcome and we can reach our rightful place where we lack nothing. When we understand this, we can approach our challenges with a new perspective. Rather than seeing them as setbacks or punishments, we can see them as opportunities for growth and transformation.
Hope That Does Not Disappoint
In the end, the trials we face in this life are temporary. I assure you that 150 billion years from now, when you are in Heaven, you will not be thinking about all the difficulties you experienced in this life. Our hope is not in this world but in the eternal life, we have in Christ. Romans 5:5 reminds us that this hope “does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.”
No matter what we face, we can hold onto the hope that God’s love is in us. This hope is not wishful thinking; it is a confident expectation rooted in God’s faithfulness. As His Temple, He is in us in every trial, and He will see us through to the other side as He orders our steps.
As Christians, we are called to walk the path of faith, not the path of least resistance. Much like a lack of gravity would make us weak, so too will a lack of resistance in life. We are called to embrace the challenges, knowing that they are part of God’s refining process to make us better and more effective in life. Ultimately, it’s not about avoiding adversity but about allowing God to use it to shape us into the people He has called us to be.
Conclusion: Walking in Strength
In your walk with God, remember that He is more concerned with your character than your comfort. He is not interested in making life easy but in making you strong. Much like the law of gravity keeps us strong, the challenges you face today are part of His plan to mold you into the person He created you to be. Just under all of the mess is a power yet to be revealed in you.
As you reflect on Romans 5:3-5 and Proverbs 17:3, take comfort in knowing that God is with and in you in every trial. He is refining you, strengthening you, and preparing you for the greater things He has in store. And as you walk through the fire, remember that your hope is not in the absence of trials but in the presence of a loving God who will never leave you or forsake you.
Let adversity be the crucible that strengthens your faith, shapes your character, and fills you with hope that does not disappoint. In this journey, God walks with you every step of the way.

Healthier You Newsletter: Unlock the Secrets to Healthy Aging: Nutrition, Supplements, and More!
Written by Paul Bernitt, DHH
Welcome to the latest Healthier You newsletter. As we age, maintaining good health becomes more important than ever. At 53 years old and counting, proper nutrition is one of my key components for healthy aging. I have learned firsthand how nutrition directly affects physical, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual well-being. While our bodies’ needs shift with time, the foundational principles of healthy eating remain consistent—centered on a balanced diet packed with essential nutrients to support our changing needs. In this edition of Healthier You, I will walk you through the key aspects of nutrition for those over 50, the best supplements to support aging, tips for maintaining a healthy weight, and the crucial role of protein in promoting strength and vitality.
The Importance of Nutrition and Diet as We Age
As we enter our 50s and beyond, several physiological changes occur—our metabolism slows, and muscle mass naturally decreases. These factors make it easier to gain weight and harder to lose it. In addition, our body’s ability to absorb vital nutrients declines, making it crucial to be more intentional about what we eat.
I saw the amazing benefits of whole foods firsthand with my father, who had Alzheimer’s. I noticed how his condition would worsen with highly processed foods, especially sugar. I had the distinct pleasure of caring for my father for several years and was able to help him enhance the quality of his life with a healthy, whole-food diet and targeted nutrition. Alzheimer’s is known as type 3 diabetes. A diet rich in whole foods, such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins, can help offset these challenges. These foods deliver the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants necessary to stay strong, fight inflammation, and fend off chronic diseases.
For example, leafy greens like spinach and kale are loaded with vitamins A, C, and K, which support eye health, immune function, and bone strength. Whole grains such as oats and quinoa provide lasting energy and promote digestive health. Lean proteins like chicken and fish and plant-based sources like beans help preserve muscle mass, which is crucial for staying active and mobile as we age.
Incorporating healthy fats—such as those found in avocados, nuts, and olive oil—helps reduce the risk of heart disease, which becomes a greater concern as we age. Staying well-hydrated is essential, as dehydration can lead to fatigue, confusion, and cardiovascular issues.
Best Supplements for People Over 50: The Absolute Essentials
Even with a balanced diet, certain nutritional needs may require additional support as we age. Here are a few essential supplements to consider:
- Vitamin D: Our ability to synthesize vitamin D from sunlight decreases as we age. Vitamin D3 is essential for maintaining bone health, immune function, and mood stability. It also aids in calcium absorption, a critical component for strong bones.
- Calcium, Magnesium, & Vitamin K2: Bone density declines with age, increasing the risk of fractures and osteoporosis. Pairing calcium with vitamin D, magnesium, and vitamin K2 can help maintain bone strength and reduce the risk of bone loss.
- Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Omega-3s, found in fish oil or plant-based sources like flaxseed, are anti-inflammatory and support heart, brain, and joint health. These fatty acids have been shown to lower the risk of heart disease, a leading concern in aging populations.
- Prebiotics, Probiotics, and Digestive Enzymes: As digestion efficiency decreases with age, probiotics help maintain gut health, prebiotics support probiotic growth, and digestive enzymes aid in food breakdown to enhance the absorption of vital nutrients. This trinity of digestive support can improve digestion, support immune function, and assist with weight management.
- Amino Acid Supplements: Taking an amino acid supplement benefits those who are 50+ and struggle to improve muscle mass. This article explores this in more detail. Building and maintaining muscle becomes increasingly important as we age.
How to Maintain a Healthy Weight After 50: Nutrition and Lifestyle Tips
Maintaining a healthy weight is more than just about looks; it’s essential for reducing the risk of chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and certain cancers. After 50, managing weight becomes harder due to slower metabolism and hormonal changes.
Here are some key tips for staying on track:
- Prioritize Whole Foods: Choose nutrient-dense foods like seasonal organic fruits and vegetables, unprocessed grass-fed or wild-caught proteins, and whole grains. Avoid heavily processed foods, often high in sugar, salt, and unhealthy fats.
- Watch Portion Sizes: With a slower metabolism, portion control becomes crucial. Eating smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day can help avoid overeating and maintain steady energy levels. Also, consider intermittent fasting to give your digestive system time to rest and recover.
- Manage Stress: Chronic stress can lead to weight gain, high cortisol levels, and a diminished immune system, so finding effective ways to manage daily stress is essential for maintaining a healthy weight.
- Stay Active: Incorporating regular exercise is key. Strength training helps preserve muscle mass, while aerobic exercise supports cardiovascular health. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity each week.
- Hydration Matters: Drinking plenty of water is vital for metabolism, digestion, and energy levels. Opt for high-quality water from natural sources like artesian or glacial springs. If drinking filtered water, adding a small pinch of sea salt can help replenish minerals.
- Mindful Eating: Practice mindful eating habits. Avoid emotional eating or snacking out of boredom. Take time to appreciate your food by noticing its vibrant colors, rich aromas, and flavors, and chew thoroughly to savor each bite.
The Role of Amino Acids in Aging
HEALTH ALERT! Muscle mass declines by about 3-8% per decade starting at age 30, with an even faster loss rate after age 60. As muscle mass decreases, so does the body’s ability to store glucose, which can impact energy production and metabolism. (1)
One of the most important nutrients as we age is protein, particularly essential amino acids. These amino acids serve as the building blocks for muscle repair, cellular growth, and energy production. (2) The body requires 20 amino acids to form muscle and other tissues, but nine must be obtained from external sources. Muscles enhance glucose metabolism as glucose is stored in the muscle. The 11 amino acids made by the body are primarily made by glucose. (3) It is important to know that with less muscle, we, by default, have less glucose metabolism and storage, which can limit the amount of amino acids the body makes.
There is an answer!
Supplementing with essential amino acids can help counteract muscle loss, known as sarcopenia, and promote muscle repair. (4) Studies show that amino acids stimulate protein synthesis, which is critical for maintaining muscle mass. For people 50+ (including me), I recommend taking essential amino acids to everyone I know.
Benefits of Essential Amino Acids:
- Stimulate protein synthesis
- Build lean muscle mass
- Reduce muscle soreness and fatigue
- Improve balance and stamina
- Support endurance and blood flow
- Help balance blood sugar levels
- Minimize muscle breakdown and prevent muscle loss
Aging well isn’t just about staying active—it’s about nourishing your body with the right foods, supplements, and habits to support long-term vitality. By focusing on nutrition, managing your weight, and ensuring adequate amino acid intake, you can embrace life to the fullest.

Aging is a natural process, but staying healthy and strong as we age is not just a matter of luck—it’s a matter of choice.
As someone over 50, I have discovered that strength training is one of the most powerful tools for maintaining health, mobility, and vitality.
While many are familiar with the benefits of cardiovascular exercise, strength training is often overlooked, especially as we age. However, the importance of strength training for people over 50 cannot be overstated. It’s not about becoming a bodybuilder or lifting heavy weights; it’s about preserving the ability to live a vibrant, independent life.

[/message_box]
[gap]Why Strength Training?
As we age, our muscles naturally begin to weaken. This process, called sarcopenia, can start as early as our 30s, but it accelerates after the age of 50. Without intervention, the loss of muscle mass can lead to reduced mobility, balance issues, and a greater risk of falls and injuries. Fortunately, strength training can slow and even reverse the effects of sarcopenia.
Here are some key benefits of strength training for those over 50:
[row]
[col span=”6″ span__sm=”12″]
- Increased Muscle Mass: Regular strength training helps rebuild and maintain muscle mass, which is crucial for everyday tasks needed for independent living, such as climbing stairs, lifting groceries, and getting out of a chair.
- Bone Health: As we age, our bones naturally lose density, which increases the risk of fractures and osteoporosis. Strength training puts healthy stress on bones, encouraging them to become denser and stronger.

[col span=”6″ span__sm=”12″][ux_image id=”32831″]
[/col]
[/row]
[row][col span__sm=”12″]
- Improved Balance and Stability: Falls are a major concern for people over 50, often leading to serious injuries. Strengthening muscles, particularly in the legs and core, can improve balance and stability, reducing the likelihood of falls.
- Better Joint Health: Strength training increases the strength of muscles that support joints, alleviating pain and improving mobility in people with arthritis or joint issues.
- Enhanced Metabolism: Muscle burns more calories than fat, even at rest. By building muscle, you can increase your resting metabolic rate, helping you manage your weight more easily as you age.
- Mental Health Benefits: Strength training improves physical health and boosts mental well-being. Studies show that resistance training can reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, improve cognitive function, and enhance mood.
- Increased Independence: Maintaining strength increases your likelihood of staying independent longer. This means you can continue performing everyday activities without assistance, contributing to a higher quality of life as you age.

[gap]Common Myths about Strength Training and Aging
Despite the numerous benefits, many people over 50 hesitate to start strength training due to common myths. Let’s dispel some of these misconceptions:
- Myth 1: Strength Training is Dangerous for Older Adults: With proper form, guidance, and a gradual progression, strength training is one of the safest exercises for older adults. In fact, it reduces the risk of injury by strengthening the muscles and bones that support joints and prevent falls.
- Myth 2: Strength Training is Only for the Young: It’s never too late to start! Studies show that even individuals in their 80s and 90s can see improvements in muscle strength and overall function when they begin a strength training routine.
- Myth 3: You Need Expensive Equipment: While gym machines and weights are helpful, they are unnecessary. Bodyweight exercises like squats, push-ups, and planks can be incredibly effective. Resistance bands and small dumbbells are affordable options for home workouts.
- Myth 4: Strength Training Makes You Bulky: This fear is common, particularly among women, but it’s not a reality. Building large muscles requires a specific diet and training regimen that most people over 50 are not following. Strength training will help you become leaner, not bulkier.
[row style=”small” width=”full-width”]
[col span=”6″]
Starting a Strength Training Routine After 50
The good news is that strength training doesn’t require much time to be effective. I spend just 3-4 hours per week doing resistance training, and I can not only see but also feel the difference. Just two to three sessions per week, focusing on all the major muscle groups, can produce noticeable results.
[/col]
[col span=”6″][ux_image id=”32832″]
[/col]
[/row]
Here are some tips for getting started:
- Start Slow: If you’re new to strength training, it’s essential to start slowly to avoid injury. Begin with lighter weights or resistance bands and focus on learning the proper form before increasing resistance. Bodyweight exercises are a great starting point.
- Focus on Functional Movements: Exercises that mimic everyday movements are particularly beneficial. Squats, for example, mimic the movement of sitting down and standing up, while arm curls resemble the action of picking something up.
- Work All Major Muscle Groups: To get the full benefits of strength training, be sure to target all major muscle groups: legs, back, chest, arms, and core. You don’t need to do all of them in one session but aim to hit each group at least once a week.
- Prioritize Form Over Weight: Lifting heavy weights with poor form can lead to injury. Focus on maintaining proper posture and movement throughout each exercise. If needed, consult a personal trainer or watch online tutorials for guidance.
- Incorporate Rest Days: Recovery is essential to any strength training program. Your muscles need time to repair and strengthen after a workout, so include rest days in your routine.
Key Exercises for People Over 50
Below are a few beginner-friendly exercises that are great for building strength, improving balance, and enhancing overall function:
- Squats: Squats are excellent for strengthening your legs and core. They mimic the motion of sitting and standing, making them highly functional. If you need extra support, try holding onto the back of a chair or a wall as you lower yourself.
- Push-ups: Push-ups strengthen your chest, shoulders, and arms. If traditional push-ups are too challenging, try doing them on your knees or standing and pushing off a wall.
- Planks: Planks strengthen your core, which is crucial for maintaining balance and posture. Start with short holds (10-15 seconds) and gradually increase the time as you build strength.
- Deadlifts: Deadlifts work multiple muscles, including your back, legs, and core. You can perform deadlifts with a pair of dumbbells or a resistance band. Be sure to maintain proper form to protect your lower back.
- Glute Bridges: Glute bridges strengthen your hips, glutes, and lower back. Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Lift your hips towards the ceiling and squeeze your glutes at the top before lowering back down.
- Step-Ups: Step-ups are a simple yet effective exercise for improving leg strength and balance. Use a sturdy platform or a low step and alternate stepping up with each leg.

[ux_text text_align=”left”]
Integrating Strength Training into Your Life
For people over 50, strength training doesn’t need to be complicated or time-consuming. You can start by dedicating just 20 to 30 minutes a few times a week to these exercises. The key is consistency. Over time, you will notice your strength, mobility, and overall health improvements.
It’s also important to remember that strength training should complement other types of physical activity. Walking, swimming, yoga, and stretching are all excellent additions to your fitness routine. They create a well-rounded program that enhances cardiovascular health, flexibility, and mental well-being.

[/col]
[/row]
[row][col span=”6″ span__sm=”12″]
[ux_text text_align=”left”]
Nutrition Matters
Strength training is most effective when paired with proper nutrition. As we age, our bodies need more protein to maintain and build muscle. Be sure to include plenty of lean proteins like chicken, fish, beans, and legumes in your diet. Calcium and vitamin D are essential for maintaining bone health, so incorporate dairy products or fortified alternatives into your meals.
[/ux_text]
[/col]
[col span=”6″ span__sm=”12″][ux_image id=”30124″]
[/col]
[/row]
Essential Amino Acids are critical for building healthy muscle, joint tissue, and every other body cell. Proteins are made up of branched amino acids. We can make some amino acids, but 9 of them cannot be made by the body and must be obtained by diet. Many people don’t know that as we age, we do not break proteins down as efficiently. I take essential amino acids during my workouts to help my body recover faster after a workout.
Some people have joint problems, which make strength training difficult. I have referred countless people to taking joint tissue-building glucosamine and chondroitin to support healthy joints. Many people consume turmeric for its anti-inflammatory benefits, but very few curcuminoids are absorbed. Taking an advanced formula turmeric supplement allows the consumer to get 95% curcuminoids absorbed, so if you deal with pain during workouts, you should consider changing turmeric.
Staying hydrated is also crucial for muscle function, so drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially before and after workouts. I like infusing my water with a hydrogen water bottle and drinking it before and during my workout. According to current research, consuming hydrogen-rich water (hydrogen water) may potentially increase energy and stamina by reducing fatigue.

[row v_align=”middle” h_align=”center”]
[col span=”11″ span__sm=”12″]
Conclusion
Strength training is a powerful tool for promoting healthy aging. By incorporating it into your routine, you can maintain your independence, improve your quality of life, and enjoy the benefits of better physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Remember, it’s never too late to start. Whether you’re a fitness beginner or an experienced exerciser, strength training offers numerous benefits that will keep you feeling strong, capable, and ready to take on life’s challenges.
Embrace strength training as part of your healthy aging journey, and you’ll give your body the care it deserves for years to come.

Movement is life. It’s one of the most fundamental actions we perform, and it plays a crucial role not just in our physical health but in our mental and emotional well-being. Movement shapes our lives profoundly from the moment we wake up to when we go to bed.
I enjoy a brisk walk in the mornings, stretching, resistance training, and running because I know every step and every action I take has the potential to positively impact not only my physical health but also how I feel, think, and relate to the world around me.
[/ux_text]

[/message_box]
[gap]I believe in the power of movement not just for a healthy body but for a thriving mind and spirit. The beauty of movement is that it can enhance life on all levels—physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. To me, movement is not just about exercise; it’s about living fully, staying engaged with life, and both tapping into and testing my resilience and joy.

Movement Is Life: The Key to Mental and Emotional Vitality
We often think of movement in terms of its physical benefits—improving cardiovascular health, strengthening muscles, and aiding in weight management. But movement goes far beyond that. It is at the heart of our mental and emotional vitality. Moving your body can be one of the most powerful ways to improve your mood, reduce stress, and foster a sense of emotional balance.
In essence, movement is life because it fuels how we experience the world around us. When we move, our minds become sharper, our spirits lighter, and our emotions more balanced. It’s the simplest, most natural way to keep our entire being—mind, body, and soul—aligned and healthy.

[col span=”5″ span__sm=”12″][ux_image id=”35028″]
[/col]
[/row]
I enjoy being outdoors. One of my favorite places is the hill country of southwest Wisconsin along the Mississippi River. I have taken many trips there and enjoyed every step I took. It brings me to a place when I was a boy: fishing, hiking, canoeing, and spending quality time with my family. The combination of movement, being in nature, and time with my loved ones has proven to be one of the most enriching parts of my life. I spend as much time as I can there as a part of my wellness routine.
How Movement Impacts Mental Health
When we move, we send a powerful signal to our brain that we are engaged with life. This physical engagement triggers the release of “feel-good” hormones like endorphins and serotonin, which help improve mood and reduce feelings of anxiety and depression.
[row]
[col span=”5″ span__sm=”12″]
[ux_image id=”30115″ image_size=”medium_large”]
[/col]
[col span=”7″ span__sm=”12″]- Endorphins: Often referred to as the body’s natural pain relievers, endorphins are released during physical activity and create feelings of happiness and euphoria. This is why people often feel a “high” after exercising, even after just a short period of movement. The boost in endorphins is a natural remedy for stress and anxiety.
- Serotonin: This crucial neurotransmitter regulates mood, sleep, and appetite. Physical activity increases serotonin levels, helping to ward off feelings of depression and anxiety while promoting a sense of calm and well-being.
[/col]
[/row]
These hormones work together to make movement a powerful antidote to everyday life’s mental and emotional stresses. A simple walk or a few minutes of stretching can turn around a tough day, helping you feel more centered, positive, and emotionally balanced.

[gap]Movement Reduces Stress and Builds Emotional Resilience
Stress is an inevitable part of life, but how we manage it can make all the difference in our emotional well-being. Movement is one of the most effective ways to reduce stress because it provides both an outlet for physical tension and a way to clear your mind. When we move, our body releases norepinephrine, a chemical that helps regulate the brain’s response to stress. This makes us feel more in control and better equipped to handle life’s challenges.
Additionally, regular movement helps build emotional resilience over time. Engaging in consistent physical activity teaches our brain and body to cope better with stress. The sense of accomplishment that comes from setting and achieving movement goals—whether taking a daily walk or completing a yoga session—reinforces our belief in our ability to handle life’s ups and downs.
Movement also has the power to break the cycle of negative thinking. When we’re stuck in a loop of stress or anxiety, moving our bodies can shift our mindset, allowing us to focus on the present moment. Activities like walking, dancing, or even gardening require concentration and coordination, pulling us out of our heads and into the physical world. This can be incredibly freeing, giving our minds a much-needed break from worry and rumination.
[row style=”small” width=”full-width”]
[col span=”7″ margin=”0px 0px -35px 0px”]
Movement Enhances Cognitive Function and Mental Clarity
Movement isn’t just about managing stress and emotions—it’s also essential for maintaining mental sharpness and cognitive function. Physical activity increases blood flow to the brain, which enhances memory, focus, and problem-solving abilities. This is why I, like many people, find they can think more clearly after a workout or even a short walk.
Regular movement also stimulates the production of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a protein that supports the growth and development of new neurons. This not only protects the brain from age-related decline but also improves your ability to learn new things, retain information, and stay mentally sharp.
[/col]
[col span=”5″][ux_image id=”35091″]
[/col]
[/row]
In a sense, movement is like nourishment for the brain. Just as food fuels our body, movement fuels our mind, keeping it agile, alert, and ready to tackle whatever challenges come our way.
Movement Cultivates Joy and Emotional Balance
Movement is life because it invites us to engage with the world around us fully. There is a deep connection between moving our bodies and cultivating joy, balance, and emotional well-being. Think about the last time you danced to your favorite song, took a walk in the park, or even just stretched after sitting for a while. Chances are, those simple movements brought a sense of joy, relief, and connection to the present moment.
Engaging in physical activity can also foster emotional balance. When we’re feeling overwhelmed, angry, or sad, movement gives us a way to process those emotions in a healthy way. Activities like yoga or mindful stretching can be beneficial for promoting emotional balance, as they encourage deep breathing and intentional movement, allowing us to reconnect with our inner calm.
When we move, we also create space for gratitude and mindfulness. Walking in nature, for example, allows us to notice the beauty of our surroundings, helping us shift our perspective and cultivate a sense of peace and contentment.
[row]
[col span=”5″ span__sm=”12″]
[ux_image id=”35093″ image_size=”medium_large”]
[/col]
[col span=”7″ span__sm=”12″ margin=”0px 0px -40px 0px”]Building Social Connections Through Movement
Movement is also life because it connects us with others. Whether taking a walk with a friend, joining a group fitness class, or participating in a dance group, movement fosters social connections vital for emotional health. Research has shown that people who exercise with others are more likely to feel a sense of community and belonging, which can significantly improve mental and emotional well-being.
When we move with others, we create shared experiences that can deepen relationships and provide a sense of support. This sense of connection is crucial for emotional well-being, especially in times of stress or difficulty. Movement brings people together, reminding us that we are not alone on our journey.
[/col]
[/row]
Simple Ways to Get Moving and Enhance Your Life

Managing Chronic Inflammation:
Your Number One Health Risk and
How Nopalea Can HelpWritten by Paul Bernitt, Board-Certified Doctor of Holistic Health and TriVita Director of Wellness Services
[/ux_text]
[/col]
[/row]
[/message_box]
[gap]Inflammation is your body’s natural response to injury or infection, a way to protect and heal itself. However, when inflammation becomes chronic, it can lead to a variety of health issues, including pain, decreased mobility and even life-threatening conditions like heart disease and diabetes. Chronic inflammation is often referred to as a “silent killer,” because it can go unnoticed for years while causing gradual damage to your body. Fortunately, you can take steps to manage chronic inflammation, and one of the most effective natural solutions available today is Nopalea, a wellness drink scientifically shown to reduce inflammation markers like CRP, increase range of motion and lessen reliance on pain medication.
[row]
[col span__sm=”12″]
[ux_image id=”29371″]
[/col]
[/row]
Understanding Chronic Inflammation
Unlike acute inflammation, which is short term and beneficial for healing injuries and fighting off infections, chronic inflammation is a long-term, low-grade response that can persist for months or even years. It can be triggered by a variety of factors, such as:
- Poor diet (high in processed foods, sugar and unhealthy fats)
- Lack of physical activity
- Stress
- Environmental toxins
- Chronic infections or conditions like obesity
Chronic inflammation is linked to numerous health problems, including arthritis, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and autoimmune disorders. One of the most concerning markers of chronic inflammation is elevated C-reactive protein (CRP) levels, which indicate inflammation in the body and are a reliable predictor of cardiovascular risk.
[row style=”small” width=”full-width”]
[col span=”6″]
The Role of Nopalea in Reducing Chronic Inflammation
Nopalea is a wellness drink made from the fruit of the Nopal cactus (Opuntia ficus-indica). This cactus fruit is rich in bioactive compounds called betalains, known for their powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. A double-blind placebo-based clinical study has shown that Nopalea can play a significant role in managing inflammation by reducing CRP levels and improving overall mobility and well-being.
[/col]
[col span=”6″][ux_image id=”29448″]
[/col]
[/row]
- Reducing CRP Levels
C-reactive protein is a biomarker of inflammation in the body. Elevated CRP levels are not only an indicator of chronic inflammation but are also linked to an increased risk of heart disease, stroke and other serious health conditions. Research on Nopalea has shown that consistent use of this drink can help lower CRP levels, which in turn may reduce the risk of these health complications. By targeting CRP, Nopalea helps to address the root cause of many chronic inflammatory issues, rather than just masking the symptoms.
- Increasing Range of Motion
Chronic inflammation often results in pain and stiffness, limiting your ability to move freely. This is particularly problematic for those suffering from conditions like arthritis, where joint inflammation can severely hinder daily activities. The anti-inflammatory properties of Nopalea, especially its high concentration of betalains, have been shown to improve joint mobility and flexibility by reducing inflammation in and around the joints. For individuals over 50, maintaining mobility is crucial for a high quality of life, and Nopalea offers a natural way to support this.
- Lessening Reliance on Pain Medication
Many people with chronic inflammation rely heavily on pain medications, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or opioids, to manage their symptoms. While these medications can provide temporary relief, they often come with undesirable side effects and long-term risks, including stomach ulcers, kidney damage and dependency. Nopalea offers a natural alternative by addressing the inflammation that causes pain at its source. Over time, regular use of Nopalea may help reduce the need for pain medications, allowing individuals to manage their symptoms more naturally and safely.
How Nopalea Works
The secret behind Nopalea’s effectiveness lies in its high concentration of betalains, which are naturally occurring pigments found in the Nopal cactus. Betalains have been extensively studied for their ability to neutralize free radicals, reduce inflammation and promote cellular repair. Nopalea’s unique formulation ensures that you receive a potent dose of these anti-inflammatory compounds in every serving.
When you consume Nopalea, the betalains begin to work at the cellular level, targeting the inflammation that causes pain, stiffness and other symptoms. Unlike medications that may provide only short-term relief, Nopalea works to balance the body’s inflammatory response over time, leading to longer-lasting results and improved overall health.
Incorporating Nopalea into Your Wellness Routine
Managing chronic inflammation requires a whole-person approach that includes a balanced diet, regular exercise, stress management and targeted supplementation. Here are a few tips for incorporating Nopalea into your daily routine for optimal results:
- Take Nopalea daily: For the best results, it’s recommended to take Nopalea consistently. Start with a loading dose of 3-6 ounces per day for the first 30 days, then transition to a maintenance dose of 1-3 ounces daily.
- Pair with an anti-inflammatory diet: Eating a diet rich in whole, unprocessed foods can further help reduce inflammation. Focus on foods like leafy greens, fatty fish, nuts, seeds and berries.
- Stay active: Regular exercise, particularly low-impact activities like walking, swimming and stretching, can help keep your joints flexible and reduce inflammation.
Manage stress: Chronic stress is a major contributor to inflammation. Practice stress-reducing techniques like reflection, deep breathing or spending time in nature.

Walking became the cornerstone of my wellness routine many years ago. I enjoy being outside in beautiful places daily, especially in the morning. This is when I can commit to walking and set the tone for the rest of my busy day. Since walking is not strenuous, I can strengthen my mental, emotional, and spiritual health through prayer, working out challenges, and grounding myself. Of all the things I do, I cannot think of anything more profound than this time each day.

The Science of Movement: Why Walking Matters
Movement, especially walking, plays a pivotal role in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, particularly as we age. Research has shown that even simple daily activities like walking can have a powerful impact on our health. A recent study of adults revealed that walking 8,000 steps or more on several days each week is linked to a lower risk of heart problems and a reduced likelihood of dying from any natural cause. (1) This means that simply committing to regular movement can deliver significant benefits to your overall health.
The 8,000-Step Secret to Health
Let’s dig a little deeper into the findings of this study. Participants who walked 8,000 steps or more on several days a week experienced incredible health improvements:

[col span=”8″ span__sm=”12″]- A lower risk of heart disease: Participants had healthier heart rates and blood pressure levels.
- A longer life expectancy: Those who walked more regularly were less likely to die from any natural cause.
- Improved mental health: Physical activity, like walking, triggers the release of endorphins—your body’s natural mood enhancers. Just a few days of increased movement can lift your spirits, reduce anxiety, and combat depression.

As I mentioned earlier, the beauty of walking is that you don’t need to run marathons or hit the gym for hours to experience its benefits. Aiming for 8,000 steps daily is a simple and effective way to improve your overall health. I’m unaware of any medication that offers such powerful and wide-ranging effects as the movement of our bodies.

[gap]How Walking Transforms Your Health
Walking is one of the most accessible forms of movement, requiring no special equipment and available almost anywhere. Here are some key ways walking can transform your health:
- Strengthens heart and lungs: Walking is a cardiovascular activity that boosts heart health, improves circulation, and lowers cholesterol levels, reducing the risk of heart disease.
- Enhances brain function: Movement increases blood flow to the brain, which improves memory, focus, and cognitive function. Walking can also reduce the risk of dementia and age-related cognitive decline.
- Promotes joint health: Regular movement helps lubricate the joints, which is essential for reducing the risk of arthritis and joint pain.
- Manages weight: Walking burns calories and supports weight management, especially as our metabolism slows down with age.
- Boosts mood and mental clarity: Walking outdoors, surrounded by nature, can relieve stress and anxiety, while the endorphins released during movement naturally elevate your mood.
- Deepens your connection with God: Walking in nature offers a special opportunity to appreciate God’s creation. As you take in the beauty of the natural world, you become more aware of His divine hand at work, even in life’s challenges. This connection with creation can strengthen your trust in God’s ability to guide and sustain you through life’s extremes.
Walking improves physical health, emotional balance, and spiritual well-being. Spending time outdoors deepens our sense of connection with ourselves, nature, and with God.
Getting Moving: Small Steps, Big Impact
If walking 8,000 steps a day feels overwhelming, don’t worry. You can start small and work your way up. The key is consistency. Even 4,000 steps a day can bring noticeable health benefits. Here are some tips to help you get moving:
- Start small: Begin with a 10-to 15-minute walk daily and gradually increase the time as you become more comfortable.
- Break it up: You don’t need to complete all your steps in one session. Walk during your lunch break, take the stairs, or enjoy a stroll after dinner.
- Use a pedometer or fitness tracker: These devices can help you monitor your steps and motivate you to reach your goals.
- Join a walking group: Walking with others can make the experience more enjoyable and provide accountability.
Every step counts. The more you move, the better your body functions, and the more you’ll experience the health benefits of this powerful, life-giving medicine.
How B-Vitamins Support Movement and Life
B vitamins are a group of essential nutrients that play vital roles in maintaining your body’s energy levels, brain function, and overall health. They convert the food you eat into energy your body and brain need to thrive. Here’s how each of these essential B vitamins can support your movement and overall vitality:

- Vitamin B-12: This vitamin supports nerve function and red blood cell production. A deficiency in B-12 can lead to fatigue and weakness. Taking B-12 supplements can help you feel more energized and motivated to move.
- Vitamin B-6: B-6 is essential for brain health and helps produce neurotransmitters that regulate mood. By supporting serotonin production—the “feel-good” chemical—B-6 can lift your mood and keep your energy levels up.
- Vitamin B-9 (Folate): Folate is necessary for healthy cell growth and energy production. Adequate folate levels can reduce fatigue and energize you throughout the day.
- Vitamin B-7 (Biotin): Biotin helps your body convert food into energy. It also supports healthy skin, hair, and nails, but its role in energy metabolism is crucial in helping you stay active and strong.

How Beetroot Supports Movement and Life
Improves Blood Flow: Beetroot is rich in nitrates, which are converted into nitric oxide in the body. Nitric oxide helps relax and dilate blood vessels, improving blood flow and lowering blood pressure levels.
Boosts Athletic Performance: Due to its high nitrate content, beetroot enhances oxygen use during exercise, improving stamina and endurance. Athletes often consume beet to enhance their physical performance.
Supports Heart Health: The combination of nitrates, antioxidants, and folate in beetroot helps improve cardiovascular health by reducing inflammation and protecting the blood vessels from damage.
Rich in Antioxidants: Beets contain powerful antioxidants like betalains, which help fight oxidative stress, reduce inflammation, and may lower the risk of chronic diseases, including cancer and heart disease.
