Why muscle changes with age, and how to support strength, balance and independence

Do you find yourself wishing you could get back out on the golf course or that you could carry in your groceries without help? Have you asked someone else to carry the laundry upstairs, or turned down a walk because you weren’t sure you’d have the energy to enjoy it?
That’s not always simply “getting older.” Muscle naturally changes with age, but our daily choices can make a meaningful difference in supporting strength, energy and mobility. How you feel today doesn’t have to define how you intentionally care for your body tomorrow.
Small, consistent choices are a powerful place to begin.
Muscle Fades Quietly
Doctors have a name for gradual age-related muscle loss: sarcopenia. It sounds clinical, but understanding it offers something valuable—an opportunity to be more intentional about supporting muscle health as we grow older.
People often don’t notice the changes until everyday tasks become more difficult. Plus, strength and stamina don’t always change at the same pace. Your muscles may feel capable while your energy runs low, or vice versa. Either way, simple moments—like a golf swing, working in the garden or climbing a flight of stairs—can begin to feel different. Look at it as a reminder that your body deserves intentional support.
Made to Keep Moving
God designed our bodies for movement and our lives for purpose. While our bodies naturally change through different seasons of life, Scripture continually reminds us where lasting strength is found:
But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles…
– Isaiah 40:31, NKJV
Caring for our strength and energy is one way we can steward well the life we’ve been given. Even though we can’t control every change that comes with age, we can make faithful choices today that support how well we will live tomorrow.
Give Your Body What It Needs
Supporting independence begins with giving your body more of what it needs: regular movement, nourishing foods, adequate protein and nutrients that support normal energy production. These basics aren’t dramatic, which is why they’re easy to overlook. Greater wellness is often built quietly… through the choices we repeat day by day.
Start simply to finish well. Add a source of protein—eggs, chicken, fish or Greek yogurt—to one more meal. Pair that with a short walk or light activity: standing from a chair, carrying groceries or working in the garden. Small efforts practiced consistently can support strength and mobility over time. Give yourself time to build the habit. Consistency creates change, and lasting wellness doesn’t require perfection.
Nutritional Support for an Active Life
A balanced diet should remain the foundation, but targeted nutritional support can complement healthy eating and movement. As our needs and routines change over time, paying attention to adequate protein, essential nutrients and energy support can become an important part of staying active.
MyoHealth provides all nine essential amino acids, the amino acids that your body cannot make on its own. Unlike whole-food protein sources such as meat, fish or eggs, free-form amino acids like those in MyoHealth are immediately available for your body to use rather than needing to go through the digestive process first. They provide nutritional support for building and maintaining lean muscle, helping complement the movement and protein-rich foods already in your routine.
Alfred Libby’s Original B-12 provides vitamin B12 to support normal energy metabolism and healthy cellular function. Its sublingual format dissolves under the tongue, making it an easy addition to a daily wellness routine when additional B12 support is appropriate.

Together, movement, nourishing foods and targeted nutritional support create a more complete approach to staying strong and active. That’s the heart of Living the Anti-Inflammatory Life: making smart, consistent choices in how you move, rest and nourish your body each day.
The Moments Worth Moving For
This isn’t about chasing youth. It’s about staying ready for the life in front of you: taking the trip you’ve been planning, swinging your golf club with friends, and carrying your own groceries into the house.
The Apostle Paul reminded the church at Corinth, “Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day” (2 Corinthians 4:16, NKJV). He understood that our bodies change, but those changes don’t diminish our purpose. Every season still carries opportunities for us to grow in our faith, care for ourselves well, and show up for others.
Nourish your body. Keep it moving. Build your strength. Make consistent healthy choices so that through every season of life, you’re better prepared to keep saying yes to the people, purposes and moments that matter most.
