Unveiling the Tranquil Power of Valerian: A Natural Remedy for Relaxation and Deep Restful Sleep

In the fast-paces rhythm of modern life, finding moments of tranquility can be a challenge. Amidst the myriad stressors, valerian (Valeriana officinalis) emerges as a soothing ally, offering a host of benefits to promote relaxation and well-being.

Stress and Anxiousness: Valerian, a perennial herb native to Europe and Asia, has been employed for centuries as a natural remedy for various ailments. It most celebrated attribute s its ability to induce calmness and alleviate stress and anxiousness. The herb achieves this by interacting with the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptors in the brain, promoting a sense of relaxation and tranquility.1,2

Sleep: One of valerian’s significant benefits is its potential to improve sleep quality. For individuals grappling with insomnia or restless nights, valerian may offer a natural alternative to aid in achieving a more restful sleep. Studies suggest that valerian may reduce the time it takes to fall asleep and improve overall sleep quality naturally without the side effects commonly associated with synthetic sleep aids.3

Muscle Tension: Beyond its calming effects, valerian possesses muscle-relaxant properties. This makes it a valuable tool for individuals dealing with tension or muscle spasms. By easing muscular discomfort, valerian contributes to an overall sense of physical and mental well-being.4

Why TriVita? Each gummy contains 1,500 mg of valerian root extract, is sugar free, gluten free, non-GMO, vegan and has a great-tasting natural blackberry flavor and color.

  • His Greatness Within

The path to greater wellness physically, emotionally and spiritually starts with recognizing and embracing the God-given greatness within you. The degree of the flame of desire within you will determine the urgency and steps you take to achieve wellness. Greater wellness is not a destination but a journey of making choices each day to support your desire for greater wellness.

I am convinced that the Holy Spirit who lives in every believer will lead you on that journey of greater wellness as you allow Him to influence your thoughts, feelings, words and actions in support of greater wellness. God has created you to live with greater wellness; He designed your systems, organs and every cell for wellness.

I encourage you to affirm this daily: “I was created and designed with systems, organs and cells for greater wellness. With God’s help from within me, I will make choices each day that support my desire for greater wellness.”

On your wellness journey you will also experience distractions in life which are many times the robbers of our greater wellness. They are like thieves that lurk in the activities of the day — external influences such as negative news feeds, processed foods to comfort rather than nourish the body, media devices that entertain and keep us from the physical activity and the precious time of prayer and reflection that are so important to greater wellness. But, the power lies within you in your desire for greater wellness. Psalms 145:19 says, “You satisfy the desires of all Your worshipers, and You come to save them when they ask for help” (CEV). There is a power within you of desire and the indwelling Holy Spirit to help you live with greater wellness.

As you experience the greater wellness of more joy, vitality, energy, mobility and less pain, stop to celebrate your experience with gratitude. However large or small it seems, you are making progress on your journey of greater wellness. Be thankful for the support around you that helps you experience greater wellness. If you shop for your own groceries, walk the aisles of fresh produce and fruits thanking God for His creation to support your wellness.

Try this affirmation: “God, I thank You for your love and care. Thank You for all you have created, like delicious whole foods, to support my wellness. I am experiencing greater wellness.”

I want you to know we are here for you as a TriVita Member — a community of support for your wellness journey. Yes, our quality products to support your body systems, organs and cells are important, but so are the prayers we offer to encourage, inspire and remind you that God cares for you. You can ask for a WeCARE consultation to help you make the choices for the wellness experience you desire. Please visit our website for inspirational and informational messages to support your wellness.

As you experience greater wellness, please share your story and experiences, as it is such an inspiration to the many TriVita staff members giving their time, talents and efforts to support our wellness-seeking membership community.

And always, please feel free to write me at ceo@trivita.com to share your testimony and offer your suggestions on how we can better support your greater wellness.

This Easter, may you recognize the power within that comes from faith in our risen, resurrected Lord Jesus!

    Happy Easter

  • The Transformative Power of Forgiveness

    The Transformative Power of Forgiveness

I declared this promise at the start of the new year: “You can, and you will experience greater wellness in 2024.” I believe that promise is available to anyone who desires greater wellness.  And, there is no greater transformative power on earth than the supernatural power of forgiveness to help you experience physical, emotional and spiritual wellness! It is a big idea! It is a God idea!! Yes, it is supernatural! It is also natural in that it applies to all aspects of our daily lives. It will free you from the harmful, emotional and energy-draining effects of unforgiveness. Jesus gives us the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6:12 as our model prayer to release the goodness and care of Father God in our lives. He said, “And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.” Then in verse 15 He warns, “but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” Jesus would not have said to forgive, if it were not possible for everyone to do. The possibility is not in ourselves but in the obedience of saying, “I forgive,” which releases supernatural power.

Forgiveness Will Unleash Heaven’s Best for You

Forgiveness is a transforming force whether it is a written or a spoken word. It is a God gift that He has given to all humanity to cleanse our lives of toxic wrongdoing. Its supernatural power is in the words, “I forgive.” It is not about forgetting the offense, or about self-discipline, or some mind-over-matter experience. One must simply recognize that it is supernatural in nature and in force but that we must naturally apply it to all aspects of our life.

Unforgiveness Will Entrap and Imprison Us Under the Power of the Perpetrator!

You choose what owns you… what adds or drains you of your physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. Forgiveness does not release the perpetrator from their responsibility. They own their wrong. And the more in life you do, the more offense will come from people who do not align to your values and purpose. But, forgiveness releases you from the perpetrator’s offense and the emotional imprisonment, bondage, anger, resentment and torment it brings. They will lie about you, call you names, steal from you and, yes, abuse you, but your greatest power is “I forgive.” It is your get-out-of-jail card. And, it is free! There is no greater power on earth.

Forgiveness Releases God’s Best in Your Life…

Your Creator knew that life would be filled with the toxic waste of wrongdoing. God knew you needed an elimination system. He created your digestive system to eliminate waste. He created your lungs to receive oxygen and eliminate carbon dioxide. There is an amazing elimination system for your body each day for billions of dead cells. Medical News reports that 50 billion cells die per day in the human body, and it is the job of the immune system to clear out and eliminate those dead cells. You were designed to eliminate… It is essential for life. Essential for wellness in life.

Life and Health Are Supported by Elimination

How long before you would be ill if you did not eliminate waste from the food you eat? Not long. Or, how long would you live if your body were not eliminating carbon dioxide? Not long. That is equally true of the toxic offenses in life that create physical, emotional and, yes, spiritual illness. Take the emotions of fear, anger and resentment. They trigger a hormone release that, if sustained over any time, creates an imbalance of cortisol and a host of other conditions that begin to wear down the emotional, the physical and, yes, the spiritual being. Those emotions  may feel justified in response to the offenses of others, but they steal our attention, focus and time to manage their toxic waste, all while robbing our quality of life. There is no greater power to release you than the supernatural power of forgiveness.

    My Personal Experience…

When I realized my health crisis could come to an end with the power of forgiveness, I was not going to wait around for other people to make things right. I was going to make things right myself and escape the toxic effects of wrongdoing. I had been lied about, millions of dollars stolen, my anxiety and anger were hurting others… what a vicious circle. Then, I remembered that what Jesus said in His prayer was the supernatural power I needed: “Forgive me as I forgive others.” Truly supernatural but all natural to everything in life. We have palm trees where we live in Arizona. I named some of them in our landscaping according to the people who had wronged me so that I would be reminded continually to forgive them every time I saw the tree. I wrote letters to everyone I knew who was wrongfully engaged or wronged. Even if I did not know where they lived, I wrote a forgiveness letter. It truly was such a remarkable and liberating experience of eliminating the toxic waste that had been affecting my physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. We all have been wrongfully dealt with. And, we have been wrong at times, even if unintentionally. The words “I forgive” will release you from their toxic waste effects. Two simple but most supernaturally powerful words. I forgive. Thank you 🙂 for letting me share this most transformative truth with you. Yes, you can experience greater wellness in 2024.

  • Top 10 Ways the Power of Gratitude Will Change Your Life for the Better

Top 10 Ways the Power of Gratitude Will Change Your Life for the Better

Gratitude is a force that transcends cultures, religions and backgrounds. When we practice gratitude, we shift our perspective and open the door to a wealth of limitless change for the better. In this article, we will explore the transformative power of gratitude and why it is so essential in our daily lives to enhance our physical, emotional and spiritual wellness.

10 Ways Practicing Gratitude Enhances Fulfillment

    1. Improved Mental Health: Gratitude has been linked to improved mental well-being. When we take the time to acknowledge and appreciate the positive aspects of our lives, it reduces feelings of anxiousness and depressed mood. Studies have shown that people who regularly practice gratitude tend to have higher levels of happiness and life satisfaction.
    2. Enhanced Physical Health: Gratitude doesn’t just affect our mental health; it also has a positive impact on our physical well-being. When we are grateful, our stress levels decrease, which in turn can lead to lower blood pressure and improved sleep. Grateful individuals often intentionally nurture their health with regular exercise and better nutrition.
    3. Stronger Relationships: Expressing gratitude can strengthen our relationships with others. When we show appreciation and acknowledge the efforts and kindness of those around us, it fosters a sense of connection and trust. Gratitude can transform conflicts into opportunities for understanding and resolution.
    4. Increased Resilience: Gratitude helps us build resilience in the face of adversity. When we focus on the positive aspects of challenging situations, it becomes easier to overcome obstacles. Grateful individuals are more likely to bounce back from setbacks and see them as opportunities for growth.
    5. More Success: Gratitude can propel us toward success. When we appreciate the resources, opportunities and support we receive, we are more motivated to make the most of them. Grateful individuals tend to be more goal-oriented and driven, which can lead to higher levels of achievement.
    6. Higher Self-Esteem: Gratitude encourages self-reflection and self-acceptance. When we acknowledge our own strengths and achievements, it boosts our self-esteem and self-worth. This, in turn, empowers us to pursue our goals and dreams with confidence.
    7. Enhanced Empathy: Gratitude fosters empathy and compassion toward others. When we are grateful for the kindness we receive, we are more likely to pay it forward by extending acts of kindness to those around us. This creates a ripple effect of positivity in our communities.
    8. Greater Appreciation: Gratitude promotes living in the present moment. When we are grateful, we become more attuned to the beauty and wonder of everyday life. This heightened awareness enriches our experiences and helps us savor the small joys in life.
    9. Reduced Materialism: Gratitude shifts our focus away from material possessions toward the intangible treasures in life, such as memorable experiences. It helps us realize that true happiness does not come from acquiring more stuff but from appreciating the things we already have.
    10. Brighter Outlook: Gratitude is closely tied to optimism. When we are grateful, we naturally adopt a more positive outlook on life. This positive mindset not only makes us happier but also enables us to tackle challenges with a can-do attitude.

In a world filled with stress, negativity and uncertainty, gratitude serves as a beacon of light. It reminds us that even in difficult times, there is always something to be thankful for. By incorporating gratitude into our daily lives through practices like keeping a gratitude journal, expressing appreciation to loved ones, or simply taking a moment to reflect on our blessings, we unlock its transformative power.

Just one moment of gratitude disrupts the negativity within. By intentionally practicing gratitude, these special moments of gratitude can turn into tremendous positive momentum in our lives.

By harnessing the power of gratitude, we can enjoy improved physical, emotional and physical health while fostering stronger relationships, increased resilience, greater success and a deeper sense of contentment. It’s a simple yet profound practice that has the potential to bring about lasting positive change in our lives. So, let’s embrace gratitude as a daily habit and watch as it transforms our world.

Living on Purpose: The Ultimate Gift to Others

    by Paul Bernitt

Happy holidays, and hello 2024. This is the season of giving and receiving, and as we wind down 2023, it is also a time to prepare for the future. It is important to devote ourselves to the idea that people really do matter, as does what they have to offer. Grace gives us the ability to celebrate the great gift of life by being of service to others, possessing a positive vision for the future and being a good steward of the resources passed down through previous generations.

Our intention for the future is seized only within the present moment, and our actions should be worthy of the bountiful inheritance of life we have received. During this holiday season and into 2024, bring honor to the sacredness of the abundant life you have been given by living on purpose, with intentionality. We are all leaving a trace, a signature or an imprint that is making a difference one way or the other, so living on purpose is our unique responsibility to ensure a better life not only for ourselves but for the generations to come.

Avoid Common Regrets — Here’s How You Can Get Started

    Pursue Purpose
A lack of purpose is the most common regret of all. Too often we live in the obscurity of others’ opinions rather than the inspiration of who God made us to be. Don’t wait until the end of your life to realize your true potential. Every choice you make and every effort toward your dream is a step closer to its fulfillment. In moments of stress, we too often do not realize that we are living from a place of fear of loss. In 2024, shift from the fear of loss to the loss of fear and what can be gained as a result. The world needs the authenticity of you!

Make Time for Those That Matter
Harry Chapin produced a song called “Cat’s in the Cradle.” It is a song about how a daddy didn’t have time to spend with his child because he was too busy, and subsequently the child didn’t have time to spend with his father later in life. Enjoy every season of your life. Take time away from your busy schedule to be with your children, your significant other, a relative or a friend. Get off the treadmill of existing to “work to get more” only to lose what you hold dearest. Make the people you love a real priority.

    Let Go of Bitterness
Too often we choose to please others by bottling up our feelings. Prolonged and unresolved anger, bitterness, unforgiveness, sorrow and many other stressful feelings can lead to physical distress on our bodies. While the appearance of peace between people may be on the surface, deep, suppressed emotions can prevent the relationship from moving ahead. Be generous in your relationships. Take ownership of your own feelings by releasing others from the conflict. While the other person may not agree to heal, you still win because you no longer harbor destructive emotions.

    Be a Real Friend
While social media and technology are great tools to help us maintain contact, “connecting” online is not the same as being present with another person. We all need someone in our lives whom we can trust. We simply can’t be at our best by ourselves or through technology. In order to have a friend, we must be willing to be a friend. Reach out and be present with those you want in your life. Make an effort that’s deserving of their true friendship. In the end, it’s all about the relationships we foster.

    Embrace Change
Choose happiness over being right. Being happy is a choice we all have to make. True happiness requires us to accept change and respond with resilience. The only thing in life that is guaranteed is change. The only thing worse than the discomfort of change is perpetuating the negativity associated with it. We simply need to give ourselves permission to let go of our old habits and patterns and adopt new ones that lead to sustainable happiness and fulfillment. Try not to take everything so seriously, and take time to have fun, laugh, smile and be a little silly. Happiness is a state of being that can lead to more effective actions and positively influence the outcome of your life.

Focus on important things that lead to sustainable fulfillment and that provide meaning and true happiness. Living on purpose is a choice. It is YOUR life and YOUR choice. Choose consciously, choose wisely, choose honestly. Choose purpose!

In the process of life you will have many challenging opportunities which will cause you to develop more passion and courage to fulfill your unique purpose. In 2024 commit to giving more credence to the opportunities found through your personal commitment to purpose than the fear of the unknown. As you celebrate and share your life, ask yourself these three questions and then live, love, learn and repeat.

    1. Why are you here?
    2. What do you value?
    3. How will you be remembered?

May the rest of your life be the best of your life, and may you add years to your life and life to your years with greater purpose. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

  • Boosting Immunity: Nature’s Path to Wellness

Boosting Immunity: Nature’s Path to Wellness

The modern world has introduced new challenges and dangers, including those related to viruses, infections and unprecedented levels of toxins that can trigger weakened immune systems and debilitating chronic inflammation. Now more than ever is the best time to support a healthy immune system, thereby supporting healthy inflammatory responses. Here are some science-supported ideas to get you started.

    Vitamin C

Antioxidants like vitamin C help protect cells from oxidative damage caused by harmful free radicals. Immune cells can be particularly susceptible to damage from oxidative stress, and vitamin C helps neutralize these free radicals, aiding in the proper functioning of immune cells. Vitamin C is necessary for the synthesis of collagen. Collagen plays a crucial role in wound healing and maintaining the integrity of skin, blood vessels, digestive lining and other connective tissues. A healthy barrier is an important part of the body’s defense against harmful pathogens. Vitamin C stimulates the production of white blood cells to help fight infection. Studies show vitamin C supplementation helps reduce the duration and severity of colds and provide symptom relief.

    Vitamin D3

Many people, especially older adults, experience a decrease in their vitamin D levels as they age. Studies have shown that vitamin D deficiency is associated with increased hospitalization of older adults, independent of markers of physical and cognitive frailty. Evidence suggests that vitamin D deficiency is associated with increased risk and greater severity of infection.4 Vitamin D helps modulate the immune system, reducing inflammation and promoting the body’s defense against infections.

    Elderberry

Black elderberry fruit possesses powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antiviral compounds that can enhance the production of cytokines, which are signaling molecules that play a role in the immune system’s response to infections.5 Because of its antiviral properties, elderberry is shown to help reduce the severity and duration of respiratory infections, such as the common cold and influenza.

    Zinc

Zinc is important for the development and function of immune cells, which are crucial for cellular communication during immune reactions. Immune cells are integral to the body’s defense against infections, and they support healthy inflammation. Zinc is a cofactor for more than 200 enzymes in the body involved in immune function, DNA synthesis and cell division. These processes are crucial for the proper functioning of immune cells and overall immune system activity. Zinc is also a powerful antioxidant that helps protect cells from oxidative stress and damage caused by free radicals. Immune cells are particularly susceptible to oxidative stress, so maintaining optimal zinc levels can support their function. When supplementing with zinc, I recommend zinc gluconate for its immune-boosting potential.

Self-Care There is no quick fix for building a strong immune system. It’s important to note that a weakened immune system is influenced by various factors, including poor lifestyle choices, environmental factors and genetics. Building and maintaining a healthy immune response involves adopting self-care efforts, including regular exercise, a balanced diet, stress management, adequate sleep and avoiding exposure to pathogens, toxins and pollutants.

  • Get to Know NO—

    Get to Know NO—

When you hear “nitric oxide,” you might think of nitrous oxide, better known as laughing gas. While you might appreciate nitrous oxide gas at the dentist’s office, nitric oxide is quite different. Taking care to maintain plenty of nitric oxide in our bodies is no laughing matter, and you need to know why.

Doctors Robert Furchgott, Louis Ignarro and Ferid Murad won the 1998 Nobel Prize for medicine after discovering the importance of “nitric oxide as a signalling molecule in the cardiovascular system. In the two decades since, nitric oxide has been studied extensively and is even considered by some to be the most important molecule in the body due to its role in transmitting nerve impulses from cell to cell in every tissue in the body.

Heart Disease on the Rise Around the World

According to the World Heart Federation, deaths due to cardiovascular disease have risen 60% across the globe over the last 30 years. The World Health Organization estimates that 1.28 billion adults over age 30 have hypertension, or high blood pressure, with only 21% having it under control.

Statistically speaking, half of all men in the United States, and nearly half of women, have hypertension. What’s more, almost half of the adults in the U.S. with high blood pressure aren’t aware they have the condition and, therefore, aren’t likely to do anything to improve their cardiovascular health.

While such numbers may not come as news to you, you might be surprised to learn that heart disease often has less to do with the heart itself than with the arteries and blood vessels throughout your circulatory system.

High blood pressure occurs when the force of blood pushing against the walls of your arteries is consistently too high. Vasodilation, or relaxation, of the arteries can become compromised due to damage caused by years of uncontrolled elevated blood pressure, high lipids and glucose in the blood, and calcified plaque buildup in the arterial lining. Instead of the heart having smooth, flexible arteries to pump blood through, the heart has to work extra hard to force blood through narrow, stiff arteries, which can lead to serious cardiovascular conditions as we age.

What Does Nitric Oxide Do in the Body?

The best known function of nitric oxide in the body is its ability to help manage high blood pressure, but healthy levels of nitric oxide generate a wealth of benefits for a number of body systems.

    • Cardiovascular – In healthy arteries, nitric oxide signals the vasodilation response of arteries. Vasodilation improves blood flow, increases oxygen in the blood, and modulates blood pressure.
    • Pulmonary – Similar to its function in the cardiovascular system, nitric oxide signals bronchodilator nerves to dilate, increasing the lungs’ ability to deliver oxygen throughout the body.
    • Immune – Nitric oxide blocks virus replication, giving the immune system a better chance of fighting off symptoms associated with viruses, harmful pathogens and other foreign invaders.
    • Cognitive – Studies have shown that a nitrate-rich diet may increase regional cerebral blood flow to the frontal lobe of the brain in older patients, an important factor in protecting against cognitive decline.
    • Endocrine – This molecule has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity, which may reduce diabetes complications, and it is known to help improve other hormone functions in the body, as well.

How Do You Get Nitric Oxide?

The good news is that our bodies produce nitric oxide as naturally as we breathe, literally! Deep breathing in through your nose not only produces nitric oxide in the paranasal sinuses, it effectively delivers it down into your lungs. Aside from your sinuses, nitric oxide is produced in the endothelial cells that line the insides of your blood vessels—all 60,000 miles of them.

The bad news is that our bodies produce less and less nitric oxide as we age, which can leave us with a lack of energy, high blood pressure and cognitive decline. By age 40, most Americans produce only half the nitric oxide they produced in their 20s. By age 50, nitric oxide production has decreased to only 35%, and it falls to a mere 15% of what it once was by the time we reach age 60.

With such a dramatic decrease in our bodies’ own ability to produce this crucial molecule, it is essential that we find other ways to get nitric oxide. Sadly, nitric oxide itself isn’t something you can consume; however, we can consume food rich in nitrates, which the body converts into nitric oxide, as well as antioxidants, which aid in the conversion process.

The amino acids L-arginine and L-citrulline also produce nitric oxide in the body. L-arginine can be found in red meat, fish and dairy products, while L-citrulline is also available in meat, as well as legumes. Beets are also a wonderful source of nitrates.

A Scientific Solution for Low NO

If red meat and dairy aren’t feasible for your diet for any reason, supplementing with a product like TriVita’s Nitric Oxide Plus may be an excellent way to make sure your body can make enough nitric oxide.

With 2,000 mg of beet root powder, plus horse chestnut and the amino acids L-arginine and L-citrulline, TriVita’s unique nitric oxide formulation is optimally balanced to help support blood flow and healthy circulation.

  • Conquering the Greatest Risk to Humanity: Chronic Inflammation

Definition of Inflammation: Acute vs. Chronic

Chronic inflammation refers to a persistent and long-term inflammatory response in the body. While acute inflammation is a normal and essential part of the immune response to injury or infection, chronic unresolved inflammation can be detrimental to our overall health. It can lead to immune system dysfunction, including a compromised ability to fight infections and an increased susceptibility to foreign invaders such as pathogens.

    Why is Chronic Inflammation Dangerous?

While not a disease itself, chronic inflammation can contribute to the development and progression of various chronic diseases. These include cardiovascular diseases, such as atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), heart disease and stroke. Chronic inflammation is also linked to conditions like diabetes, obesity, certain types of cancer, autoimmune disorders and neurodegenerative conditions. While there is no one-size-fits-all solution, anti-inflammatory foods are showing promising results in supporting healthy inflammation, thereby reducing the incidents of conditions related to chronic inflammation.

    Nutritional Supplements for Chronic Inflammation

    Anti-Inflammatory Support from the Desert

Nopalea is a delicious, nutrient-rich, ready-to-drink dietary supplement made from the purest and freshest Opuntia ficus-indica superfruit from the Nopal cactus. The Nopal cactus grows in the Sonoran Desert, and its fruit contains potent antioxidants called bioflavonoids that promote cellular health. Nopalea is a scientifically supported food supplement with powerful anti-inflammatory benefits. It may be considered one of the best nutritional supplements for chronic inflammation, as study results have shown that consuming three ounces of Nopalea per day for eight weeks improved the following health outcomes:

    1. Reduced C-reactive protein in the blood, a marker for measuring inflammation
    2. Improved joint mobility, range of motion and flexibility in the neck, back and joints
    3. Improved quality of life
    4. Less reliance on pain medication

    Anti-Inflammatory Spice

Turmeric, a bright yellow spice commonly used in Indian cuisine, contains a compound called curcumin, which is responsible for many of its health benefits, including its anti-inflammatory properties. Because curcuminoids are fat soluble, TriVita’s Promeric 95 supplement delivers them in a fat-soluble delivery system — soft gels — to assist with absorption. In one study, the turmeric extract used in Promeric 95 was up to seven times more bioavailable than unformulated curcumin, making it another of the best nutritional supplements for chronic inflammation.

Here are some of the anti-inflammatory benefits of turmeric:

    1. Reduction of chronic inflammation
    2. Relief for sore joints
    3. Improved digestive health
    4. Support cardiovascular health
    5. Support for brain health
    6. Skin health

What Is the Fastest Way to Reduce Inflammation in the Body?

There is no quick-fix for chronic inflammation, so you should keep a number of factors in mind. It’s important to note that chronic inflammation is influenced by various factors, including lifestyle choices, diet, environmental factors and genetics. Managing chronic inflammation involves addressing the underlying causes and adopting a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise, a balanced diet, stress management, and avoiding exposure to toxins or pollutants.

  • A Treasure from the Desert: The Nopalea Superfruit

A Treasure from the Desert: The Nopalea Superfruit

Do creaky knees and aching joints sound all too familiar? You’re not alone. Arthritis affects more than 6 million Canadians — more than diabetes, heart disease, cancer and stroke combined. One in five adults across the nation deals with joint pain or chronic inflammation, and the numbers are on the rise.

If you’re looking for hope beyond surgery, never-ending pain medication or giving in to a lifetime of pain, you may want to try Opuntia ficus-indica, more commonly known as the prickly pear or nopal cactus.

The Nopal Cactus in History & Culture

Native to Mexico, the nopal cactus thrives in the arid and semiarid regions of the Sonoran Desert. Discovered centuries ago by the Aztecs, this ancient Mesoamerican culture used the nopal cactus for food and medicine, as well as in their rituals. After Columbus made his way to the New World, sailors began using nopal to treat scurvy, and the prickly pear cactus made its way back across the globe aboard European ships.

Today, the nopal cactus with its fruit is a national symbol of Mexico. It appears in the national coat of arms and on the country’s flag, where a proud Golden eagle stands perched on a flowering prickly pear cactus.

Both the green nopal pads and its colorful fruit are edible, and numerous recipes can be found on the internet. The pads may be cooked or eaten raw, as long as one is careful to remove the spines and barbed glochids. The fruit also may be eaten raw, though it, too, has spines, and it is often used to make juice, jelly and jam.

    Resilience in the Harshest Conditions

To call this amazing plant hardy would be a considerable understatement. Not only does the nopal cactus thrive in extreme heat and drought conditions, it also survives freezing temperatures and soil lacking in nutrients.

Another name for this incredible flora is la planta de vida, or “life-giving plant,” as even its fallen leaves become new plants. It is prolific, able to produce fruit year round, and an old Mexican adage says, “Whoever has a nopal in his house, will never go hungry.”

It’s no wonder that people living in extreme desert climates looked to the nopal for sustenance.

    TriVita’s Nopalea® Supplement: Michael’s Story

On a trip to Mexico, the founder of TriVita, Michael R. Ellison, sat listening to the indigenous Seri people tell of their ancestors’ strength and resilience living in the harsh Sonoran desert. Inspired by the Seri’s tales and spurred by his own family’s needs, Michael pondered the thought, “Somewhere in that desert there is an amazing plant that will be prolific, and it will help with inflammation.”

Nopalea – It is a gift from God, and
how it was discovered is amazing.”
    ~ Michael R. Ellison

Arriving home, Michael began working with scientists at Arizona State University, as well as botanists from the Native American Pima Tribe, to study what they ate in the desert that helped them overcome inflammation. The result of their research and passion was Nopalea, a delicious, nutrient-dense drink made from the fruit of the prickly pear cactus.

Nopalea has since become one of TriVita’s best selling and most beloved health supplements.

    Our Members Love Nopalea

Every month TriVita Members tell us how much they love their Nopalea and how it helps them maintain good health and improves their quality of life.

TriVita Member Josette G. says, “The Nopalea makes my neck and joints feel better, I do not have any more pain,” while Carol C. tells us, Nopalea helps me feel good, and I have more energy.”

According to Member Deborah D., Nopalea helps, and I share it. My whole mental health and everything changes, and when I’m sluggish it helps me a lot. It also helps my emotional phase I am going through and helps with mobile skills.”
Finally, Diane J. shares, Nopalea is so good, I could drink the whole bottle in one sitting. I do not have any inflammation at 76. Nopalea helps me stay healthy.”

    The Benefits of Nopalea

With daily use, Nopalea may improve your quality of life in these ways:

    • Helping support healthy immune function
    • Helping prevent vitamin C deficiency
    • Helping maintain healthy bones, cartilage, teeth and gums
    • Helping in wound healing and connective tissue formation
    • Providing antioxidants for the maintenance of good health

Why wait another day to start feeling better? Try Nopalea, a delicious way to support joint health and improve your quality of life.

  • Ashwagandha, the Ancient Adaptogenic Herb

    Ashwagandha, the Ancient Adaptogenic Herb

Statistics suggest that stress in America is on the rise, with as much as 63% of the U.S. workforce having considered leaving their jobs to escape work-related stress. According to a Harris Poll conducted for the American Psychological Association, the economy, our jobs and health issues rank among the top stressors for survey respondents. The World Health Organization estimates that 12 billion workdays are lost annually worldwide due to anxiety or depression, at a cost of one trillion U.S. dollars per year.

With the ever-rising costs of healthcare and less access to in-person doctor visits, self-care is becoming a more important means of maintaining our physical and mental wellbeing.

As APA President Rebecca W. Brendel, M.D., J.D. states, “What’s promising is that many Americans are aware of their mental health needs and taking steps to improve their own mental health.”

    The Ashwagandha Plant, Withania Somnifera

Stress is not just a modern-day dilemma. People have sought solace from worry and anxiety for centuries. Since life began in a Garden, it makes sense to consider the plants that God has given us as potential sources for wellness solutions. One plant in particular has shown great promise in this area, both practically and scientifically: Ashwagandha.

Originally found in the driest parts of India, the Middle East and parts of Africa, Ashwagandha grows as a desert shrub. This hearty evergreen goes by many names, including winter cherry, Indian ginger and even poison gooseberry.

    Traditional Uses

The ancient peoples of the Indian subcontinent used the plant’s roots, leaves, berries and even bark for myriad medicinal purposes.

The American Botanical Society says that the dried root and whole plant are used in Indian folk medicine and references the claims of ethnobotanist James Duke, PhD, that various parts of the Ashwagandha plant are used as folk remedies for everything from hypertension and senility to asthma and hiccups.

This ancient herb has garnered newfound interest in our day for its adaptogenic properties.

adaptogen – Adaptogens are natural substances, such as herbs and roots, that may help the body adapt to and better manage stress.

    The Role of Cortisol

Cortisol is a hormone our body releases as part of the fight-or-flight response. When we feel threatened, our adrenal glands release hormones including cortisol and adrenaline into the bloodstream. These hormones work together to raise heart rate, increase glucose in the bloodstream and help ensure your body can repair itself more efficiently.

cortisol – Cortisol is the body’s primary stress hormone, which is released by the adrenal glands in response to a perceived threat

This natural process is helpful if you’re facing a dangerous or threatening situation. When your body is constantly in fight-or-flight mode because of work deadlines or difficulties in a relationship, however, chronic stress can lead to a number of health problems.

According to the Mayo Clinic, overexposure to cortisol puts you at increased risk for health problems such as these:

    • Anxiety
    • Depression
    • Digestive problems
    • Headaches
    • Muscle tension and pain
    • Heart disease, heart attack, high blood pressure and stroke
    • Sleep problems
    • Weight gain
    • Memory and concentration impairment

Studies have shown that Ashwagandha helps balance the stress hormone cortisol, which should be higher in the daytime and lower at night.

Less Stress > Balanced Cortisol > Lower Blood Pressure > Greater Wellness]

    Ashwagandha for Stress Relief

Genetics and life experiences help determine how you react to stress. Regardless of your background or whether you’re able to change your circumstances, there are steps you can take to manage stress better. You may want to keep a journal, volunteer in your community or take up a hobby.

As part of a healthy lifestyle, including a healthy diet, drinking plenty of water and getting seven to nine hours of restful sleep each night, you might want to consider taking an Ashwagandha supplement to help manage stress.

Several studies have supported the assertion that the herb may lessen perceived levels of stress and anxiety–even significantly.

TriVita’s Ashwagandha KSM-66® supplement was developed to help reduce stress and to promote sleep and faster recovery. Unlike many other Ashwagandha supplements, the serving size of our formulation is 600mg, equal to that used in the clinical studies.

Studies of this KSM-66 formulation have demonstrated a significant reduction in perceived stress, as well as better quality of sleep and increased alertness when rising. Less stress and healthier cortisol levels could contribute to better overall health and a greater sense of wellbeing.
