So what does “sublingual” mean, anyway?
“Sublingual” means “under the tongue.” You simply place
a TriVita Super Sublingual B-12 tablet under your tongue and allow it to dissolve
completely. Super Sublingual B-12 uses Dr. Alfred Libby’s
original, patented delivery system to speed these essential B vitamins directly
into your bloodstream – where they’re detectable in as little as 30
minutes.
The science of sublingual
When a substance is administered sublingually, it is absorbed through the mucous
membranes under the tongue and into the sublingual vein where it has direct access
to the blood circulation – and is then carried throughout the entire body.
Medical science has been using this method for years in the administration of cardiovascular
drugs, steroids and some barbituates.
- Researchers Delpre & Stark studied patients with B-12 deficiency to see if B-12
can be absorbed by holding a tablet under the tongue. The theory behind sublingual
is that the mucous membranes under the tongue are efficient at absorbing certain
molecules. Five patients had pernicious anemia, 7 were vegetarians, and 2 had Crohn’s
disease (which can prevent the absorption of B-12 in the ileum). The patients held
two 1,000 mcg B-12 tablets (equaling 2,000 mcg/day) under their tongues until completely
dissolved. This was done for 7 to 12 days. Average serum B-12 levels went from 127.9
± 42.6 to 515.7 ± 235. All patients’ serum B-12 normalized.
There were no side effects and all patients preferred this to injections.

deficiency as an alternative to oral and parenteral cobalamin supplementation”

Aren’t there other ways to get B-12?
Until recently, there were few options for getting the B-12 your body needs:
- Diet: B-12 is naturally found in animal foods including fish, milk
and milk products, eggs, meat and poultry. But your ability to absorb the B vitamins
from food decreases as you age because the production of acids that release the
B-12 from protein decreases with aging. Other factors – including reliance
on acid suppressing agents, gastric disorders or surgery, certain prescription medications
and dysfunction of intrinsic factor – can also interfere with your body’s
ability to absorb B-12.
- Oral tablets: Although there are many B vitamin tablets available
on the market, B-12 is very poorly absorbed into the body by oral means. Blood levels
of B-12 increase only slightly after these tablets pass through the digestive system.
- B-12 injections: Doctors have relied on B-12 shots for years to
treat serious B-12 deficiencies. Though most of the vitamin B-12 from large intramuscular
doses is lost in the urine, injections have still traditionally been the best method
of treatment. The shots, however, can be embarrassing; difficult to provide for
some patients who are elderly or living alone; and painful and expensive if provided
by a health care professional.
Why Super Sublingual B-12 from TriVita?
Super Sublingual B-12 from TriVita uses a delivery system so unique and powerful,
it was patented! Now you don’t have to worry about your B-12 going through
a digestive system obstacle course – or the pain and expense of a B-12 injection.
And, Super B contains more vitamin B-12 than the average injection!
Plus, it’s the only B-12 product on the market to combine both major forms of B-12 with B-6, folic acid and ginseng. TriVita Super Sublingual B-12 takes the pain and worry out of B-12 supplementation. These critical nutrients go directly to your bloodstream, where they start working
